A nut cracker as a last resort. I've often used them on my 4104.

Sometimes it is the fast and easy way when rust has taken over completely.

"not really rusty just tight"

Could be a combination of a fine nut and a coarse screw, lubrication will help.

Not to imply your tools are no good but sometimes a squirt of air tool oil gives them the kick they need.

Move that line or shield it so you can bring heat.

PB Blaster and patience. You have to remember, nuts will become one with the bolt over time. Subject to all kinds of conditions, they will almost weld themselves together. Thread stretch when you touque them down, that's what helps hold them together.

If you can't use heat, get a die grinder or nut buster, as was suggested, and cut them off, replace with new. You should anyway.

(probably left-hand thread)(don't ya' just hate that?)

Just Chisel the ^%^&# thing on the edge of the nut
(spreading it out), that'll help, along with the PB from NAPA.

Thomas -

I'm putting a list together of the various words I've used in the past,
to get seemingly impossible jobs done. You might want to go out and
buy some extra bandages and maybe a tourniquet during the time
I'm getting the list together, since the words usually have more
impact after an initial flow of blood.

Years ago, I'd send my wife into the house during the critical work,
but now after 47 years, she and the neighbors pull up lawn chairs
and pass around the chips and beer.....

(I always have trouble figuring out who they're rooting for, tho...)

Do they really need replacing? Shocks are often over rated . . . :-)

A torque multiplier will turn the nut or bust the socket.
If you don't already have one, now might be a good time to get one.

I have one & it makes short work of loosening stubborn nuts. I got mine (a Sweeney rated at 2200 ft-lbs) off eBay.

for those that like PB blaster. Kano Kroil puts it to shame every time. it is hard to find but worth it. in the marine industry where corrosion is a real problem this product is a must have in the tool box. Grant sometimes getting mad busts your knuckles

Ijust finished taking off some nuts that a 1" air wrench,15/16 socket,6 point wouldn't budge. I took some PB Blaster and soaked it down and got a propane torch and heated it just enough that you could hold it and then put a 3/4 impact on it and it turned right off. Found the threads were a little stretched and re-threaded them and put the puppies back on without any trouble. They have at HVAC places a blanket or I call it a paste like substance that you can weld next to a pipe, wiring, etc without harming anything, I does work!!

Wonder if that would work on freeing a bypass valve (3/4 inch, square end) in a cooling system???

Tried the heating...a 4 foot "cheater" on a pipe wrench handle....nada...nothing...zip...wouldn't budge after liquid wrench, heating with mapp gas and...and...and...

Did not try my torque wrench...didn't want to replace it.

Just do not want to mess up the system, so "gave up"...and that is not like me..:-)

RC!! IF you can heat it up and put PB Blaster around the thing, Then put a little pressure on it with your wrench or rachet and tap it not hard but consistent pressure maybe back and forth it may come loose. It may have a packing nut or collar on it and see if you can loosen that up and do the same thing on it. Can you post a picture of it? will try to help.

I use the over priced Kroil for a number of years until I got tired of the price.

Switched to the much cheaper PB Blaster from WM and can't tell the difference!!

yeah....at the possible "expense" of either the subject problem or the mechanic....or, in my case, sometimes (usually) both!... :-)

Have not tried the PB Blaster...wiil "re-think" my priorities; and the brute force thing!

Thanx.....I think. :-) :-)

Gus you are right about the the kroil being pricey. I keep both PB and Kroil in stock. and resort to the kroil when PB won't work for me. but who knows since I am a believer in the reality creation view of things perhaps I am jinxing the PB while at the same time fortifying the Kroil with positive mental energy strength...OR perhaps I am just mental, who knows, after all I did buy a burned out bus.

George,

I also tried "Mouse Milk" which is supposed to be the very best thing in aviation maintenance. It is no better than any of the others and makes Kroil seem cheap.

Any unusual mental condition is helpful for us busnuts, we need all we can get!!

What ever you try , don't do it with an "aviation" hammer , or you will find out what expensive is!!

...not that I recomend heating anything that must go back into service , such as a shock stud that is not so easy to change, but perhaps you can shielf the air lines , or remove it. old brake lining makes great head shield , as does aluminum between the wet rag (on the lines) and a flame.
