For years the best system was the Waywolf for marine applications.
Used a standard gun & head firing into a all wet burner can.
Had a few seperate feeds for pre heat & domestic water, BUT
It is a USCG labled marine unit , built very well for inspected (Passenger ) boats, so the price and size are hard to swallow.
The current Hurricane is good for RV & boats as it has different sized pumps for different capacity heat output.
Saves electric for the hot pipe or hot floor systems , not a big deal if 6 toe kicks are waisting juice at a fast rate.
You might find a used Waywolf , it would be worth the hassles , for 24/7/360 live aboard in AK.
But with a domestic gun & domestic sized circulation pump that EAT Current,, would be poor choice for boondockin.

West Marine has some basic units for quite reasonable prices. Just like a small wood stove except burns diesel. I may get one for next winter. . . Not sure if they are on the Web site, but the current print catalog features them.

BEWARE of the units that are only pressurized kerosene burners , with a different jet to use diesel.
The tinyest drop of water in the fuel will turn the flame out , but not shut off the fuel flow.
The Dickinson & others with a pot burner & drip feed are fairly fault tolerant.
The pressure kerosene / diesels are about 10,000btu max from a Primus burner and I have never seen one where the Mfg did not caution NO unatended operation or overnight operation.
A heater is only a heater , most folks need a furnace, designed to operate unattended 24/7.

the airtop unit is ideal for 24/7 operation unattended, has auto shut offs, self diagnosing, self priming. optional timer can be purchased.

I,m a dealer for ToyoStoves, and they manufacture a great little compact unit that runs on #2 oil!
Ive never even seen one of these other than on thier brochures, but I do feel that the company is very solvent and they make great oil heaters for residential applications. They also offer an oil cookstove which can have the optional blower for heating purposes. Both of these are designed for RV/marine applications and they use a "direct-
vent" system which draws in air for combustion, and then exhausts it out through the same vent.
No odors and no oxygen depletion. - Mark - |
