Hello all, It's been some time since I posted, but since then we've managed to strip the inside of our GM 4151 and insulate, panel, floor and build the furniture for our re-conversion. (The archives were a constant source of help during this process, we have to say!) Our next step was plumbing, but we decided to hit the road and try to purchase a house in Northern California before the tax credit passed... so we loaded up the bus and drove to an RV park in Yreka, California. Well, the property we wanted to buy fell through today (a problem with the title) so now we're moving back to our plans to finish our plumbing and travel around the West Coast looking for a chunk of land to buy. Like I said, we're in Yreka, CA (on the OR/CA Border at I-5) and we're looking for a RV shop or mechanic in the far north of California or the southern part of Oregon. What we need is a shop or RV mechanic who has the tools to spin on fittings to our fresh water and holding tanks. We also need to hook up our propane tank and connect the piping to our stove, something we can do ourselves but might want to bend the ear of someone knowledgeable with propane so that we do it right. Anyone have any suggestions? With an old bus and our budget, we'd prefer a shade tree shop to a "Deluxe RV Supercenter". Thanks a lot, ~ Erston and Blue |

If you are willing to go as far north as Eugene or Junction City, there are lots of RV techs hungry for work up there. Not sure who has the spin-weld equipment and fittings, but I can ask around.

Thanks everyone! We'll give Coach Maintenance a call tomorrow (or Monday) and ask if they can spin fittings on for us. We were just talking about heading to Clear Lake, so it's a perfect fit to our itinerary. ~ Erston and Blue |

Just a small reminder here.... using a properly sealed OVAL bulkhead plate on both sides of any tank negates the need for "welding" the trick is captured hardware on the back side plate. Price?...less than $10 plus sealant & pipe fittings in any material, it's usually scrap at the place you buy it from. I've seen more than one tank passed by for lack of the perfect fittings... and the imagination of the passer ....experience is pricless, I've played the role of "passer". |
