Anyone have a working turbo you'd like to sell? Will any other turbo fit this engine? I'm considering buying a bus that's several hundred miles from home, and it has a hole in the puffer. I have one on a 6v92 (left hand rotation), but I guess that won't work, huh?

Pretty sure the turbo doesn't care which way the engine turns. It's more the size, about it fitting on the exhaust properly, having an output where it's supposed to be and other appropriate fittings....

Thanks Ralph7 for the contact. I'll try to get my number updated soon.

Timothy at Lied Diesel was most helpful. Says the 6v92 turbo will bolt up and work if both engines are same vintage (early or late). I'm checking that further today.

Get the model number for me I have 3 or 4 here in AZ there are 12 or more for a 8v92 if a high horse hp engine the TV 8511 is a good turbo for torque at the high end but smokes a little on take off.
My advice is check the A/R on both sides the hot side A/R is located inside the hot housing housing, the turbo is matched to the injector, cams and liners so be careful installing any other turbo on the engine.
The model and serial number is located between the 2 housings on the center piece

I should have been more clear that I'm only interested in getting this bus home. It's about 600 miles from here. As part of the conversion, I'm going to repower with a 50 series coupled to a 13 speed Road Ranger. The 8v92 runs but has a hole in the turbo, and I can't imagine trying to limp it home in that condition.

Thanks for all the response.

...but did any other engine damage occurs when the hole appeared in the turbo that will make itself apparent a few miles down the road ? might be the same price to have it towed or low bedded home as a haul back, if time isn't short. Phone around for a quote, the local bus shops will know who is equipped.

I've learned that my 6v92 turbo is the older style and will not bolt to this 8v92. Does anyone have contact info for a truck wrecking yard near Fancy Gap, VA? I hear they may have the turbo I need, but I don't even know the name of the place.

I've already investigated all the transport options, and none are cost effective. I'm confident I can driver 'er home if I can get the turbo swapped.

"50 series coupled to a 13 speed Road Ranger"

Most coaches do not weigh enough , even with a heavy trailer to need to row thru 13 speeds.

5 or 6 will do as well.

The goal if light is 1350-1400rpm at 60 -65

Or if really heavy 1500rpm or so at 60-65

This is supposed to give the fuel mileage you would expect from a more modern 4 stroke.

The latest thinking in 80,000lb trucks is a 2.64 rear so no power loosing OD is needed.

Top gear is straight thru , most efficient.
