though it was a cruise to Alaska there is some bus content. The port of Juneau has no access by roads so a lot of older equipment is used. Half the buses I saw in service were imaculately maintained fishbowls http://www.flickr.com/photos/timbmn12/4646375300/ |

Too bad I didn't know you were headed up. My sister owns "Hearthside Books", one of her stores is right next to the pier & my Bro in Law manages the Mt Roberts Tram. Could have gotten you some freebies from them. Did you go the Red Dog Saloon? Hope so. How's about the Red Onion Saloon in Skagway. Another fine watering hole. My wife and I go up every 5 years...we were married in Glacier Bay, Alaska way back in '95. 1995 Fun trip, eh?? |

Neat James. Yes the trip was wonderful. My wife and I had been about 10 years ago but we wanted to return so the kids could experience it. I can't hink of a better place to get married than Glacier Bay must have been a really special service. We didn't go to the Red Onion it was pretty full with tourists from three ships in port. We asked the tram driver where they would eat and ended up at Skagway Brewing Company it's about 6 blocks up the road from the Onion. Had a really great porter there and good food...nice local hangout. It's definitely a trip I could do many times without getting bored I will post a link to more pictured after I have a chance to go through them and upload. |

I was up there 3 years ago, and had a ride in one of the fishbowls. It has a small injector 8V-71N (probably 55) hence no smoke. It also had a VS2-8 with overdrive. But-they have NO power steering-which was interesting considering our bus driver was a young lady! Those buses were sent down to Washington area and completely rebuilt before being put back into commercial service. I understand that they are sent back down to Washington every year after the tourist season. They ran well (still don't understand not having power steering!). Good Luck, TomC |
