I bought a 19 foot used travel trailer for our future great trip to Alaska. Didn't want to take coach...a breakdown would cost a small fortune. Anyway, my thoughts are: 4d deep cycle battery, a Honda 2000 watt generator, a small inverter, and a 13,500 btu roof top air conditioner. I know that the generator would run the AC, or a lesser btu unit, but wouldn't start the compressor. Could I use a small inverter, say 1500? watt to pull from the battery to get it started, and then put the charge back into the battery in between? Two things: I don't think I'll need the A/C in Alaska, but on the way or some camping in hot weather. I like the compact Honda as a nice unit to have around home and other uses.
Everyones thoughts please

Perhaps instead of the 13000btu , you could simply plop in a modern one with soft starting requirements?

Well I know my 3 cruisair units are 15000's and they pull 13 and 14 and 13 amps when the compressors are running. These are runnung well but original units, (old). I have a 2500 watt inverter and it starts the front one (14 amp) with no problem when I move it over there.

It would be cheaper to have Sarah Palin come to you, wouldn't it?

On a 19 ft'r, you can use a 11,000btu A/C, then less startup and running current. Good Luck, TomC

Good, I was wondering if someone might have used a smaller one successfully. I'll have to check them out. Was that honda the small portable one or a larger permanent installed on?
