Which Allison automatic transmission do I need to install, and what are the typical prices for the transmission and parts? My bus is a 1970 with an 8V-71.
Thanks

Tom,

A V730 is the only Allison made for your coach. Used parts kits are about $1700 from Nimco. This is trany, cooler, shift controller, etc. If you are in the East coast area Dean's Coach, Durham, NC is very good at this type of work. (919)383-4780. Call them for parts as well.

Tom -

The "VS" series ATs will also fit your 4905. They were the original optional automatics for the buffalos until the introduction of the V730s.

with any used transmission be prepared to rebuild it
cost me 2500. extra. just becouse it was a running take out dosn't mean it still runs. also inspect it very carefully for damage, mine came with a fork lift made hole in the pan and spacer ring Nimco finally replaced them. also a friend found cig butts in the filler tube would have done some damage if circulated.
