Hi guys Just bought a '76 4905 with a VS-2. It was converted from stick but never hooked up correctly. Does anyone have the schematic from the 4905 manual they could fax to me so I can get this thing straightened out enough in the next day or two so I can bring it home? It's in a real bad place with kids breaking it's windows & spraying graffiti on it! Jim-Bob |

Hey Jim, congrats on the buy. Sorry, but my Book is too old to help with the diagrams you need. Keep us all up on what you are doing to it, Okay? Cheers...JJ |

You are right, Akrom. It's also hard to send you an e-mail when your address is not available either. e-mail me at pd41044039 @a o l . com but remove the spaces. I will reply with my fax number. |

I understand the 671 doesn't handle the v730 to well...Has anyone put a v-730 in their 4104 or maybe a VS-2. If so do you like it and are you satisfied.. Tuck-04 |

Tuck, if you're going to go to the trouble to change the stick to auto (Which requires that the rear axle "pumpkin" be changed due to drive angle, why not put in the 8V-71 and make her move? The cheapest way is to buy a transit or Suburban (with the right gear ratio rear end) and get a factory package cheap. I bought this 4905 just for the powertrain 'cause it was a real deal, but Wife is pushing converting it instead of stripping it. I myself would rather have the stick with an 8-71 in the 4104. I like the reliability of a stick and it's quieter than this auto trans 4905 which goes full throttle from each red light 'till it shifts to second at about 32 MPH. Ah, what we put up with for the "other half". Jim-Bob |

I am looking for a Stone Bennet electric/air shifter for a V730 for my 4107. Any idea where I can find a used one? |

Gerald You might try to contact Nimco in Newark N.J. or any bus scrap yard. There is two types of Stone-Bennet shifters. The older ones had the up and down solenoids separate from the main shifter and used 80psi to operate while the newer ones had the solenoids built into the main body. These ones used 120psi to operate. These are good units but hard to find used ones. They also have sliding contacts with terminals to hook up lights to let you know what drive range you are in. Good luck in locating a used one. Bill |
