Our TDI RV 5036 50 Amp electric cord reel works great until they don't. When I noticed the motor arcing and proceeded to take it out of RV. The motor is inside the reel and the 6 brush holder was riveted to the outside. So knowing that all I had to do is replace the Bushes on the $635.00 unit that came with the bus, I drilled them out to get to the 6 small brushes about 3/8" round and 5/8" long with the typical spring and plate. Pulled them out easily. Went to a local brush shop and they looked at it and said" oh no you drilled out the rivets." I said ya why. Well they make them like that so you have to send it in to have them replace the brushes which are special (which he didn't know what they were made out of?) material??? So that being said, I said well its opened now so where can I get them. He said he could do it for 250.00. I asked if he could get them and I would put them in myself. He said no they had to be put in by the company because I couldn't buy any anywhere????? This gy needs a little more coffee in the morning. So anybody know who might have these six brushes for sale besides this guy or the manufacture? Thanks Dave |

In a similar vein.. (being bent over) The guy at the Propane Supply wanted $35.00 each for jets to convert my clothes dryer from "city gas". At that point I went to the nearest Ace Hdwr store and bought 3 quarter inch brass plugs and a #52 drill bit (if memory serves me correct)...total cost less than $5.00 3 minutes on the drill press of a friend & the job was finished. I even got to keep all my fingers! (use a vice) |

Brushes are really soft stuff , bigger ones can be filed to provide what you need. Put a file in a vice flat and simply rub the brush to its desired size. FF |

Thanks for all your great answers. I love this board. You guys have a lot of great information and long learned Knowledge that helps many who may not even sign in but are using it for information to fix their own problems with their equipment. Update; way back I asked you guys about why my bus was leaning and some said bags, leaks etc. And I did find some leaks which I fixed. One Saturday I took off the wheels in back and noticed when the PO had tried to flatten the wheel well and I put it back in. What I didn't notice until I took the tire off was the PO had welded in a steel block for the bus to sit on as to not hit the flat floor after he did that. I cut the block out and now the good news is no more lean. It sits down on its bump stops without leaning anymore. Thanks again Dave |
