I am wondering if anyone has come across an after market fuel gage sending unit for a 102 or 96 coach.
My fuel tank reads full all the time.
I have the sending unit out and have cleaned it and polished up the contacts with no luck
thanks
Les

I had a nice, long heavy wire, about the diameter of a coat hanger.

It was foolproof!

Les,

Have you checked the reading with the sender out?
If its a 3 wire gauge, the gauge may not be properly grounded in the fiberglass dash.
If it still reads full with the wire disconnected from the sender, the problem is not the sender. It is either the gauge, or the wire inbetween. Second step would be to take the gauge wire off in the front junction box, and see what the gauge reads.

Also, check the sender with an ohmmeter. Connect one terminal of your meter to the gauge terminal, the other to the body of the sender. It should read low ohms in the full position, and higher resistance as the level decreases.

You need to know what resistance your gauge requires. Senders come in 0-30, 0-90, 10-180, 240-33, 90-0 ohms and some other resistances.

If you don't know what your gauge requires, get a 1K potentiometer at Radio Shack ($2.00 or so)and connect it in place of your sender. Adjust it until your gauge reads empty and check the resistance. Adjust it again until the gauge reads full and check again. That should give you an idea of what sender you need, unless someone here actually or you can find OEM parts.

Plug this number into eBay search: 120525591962 Although it's for a 102D, it may work for you.

thanks guys.
It is a two wire sender.
One is just a ground the other one to the center stud on the sender cap.
When the wire is removed the gauge goes to empty.
After cleaning the sliding resister the gauge will then read as low as 1/2 tank with the float in the full down position.
Using and ohm meter on the wire I find that the sliding resister is giving erratic readings.
I have a call into MCI tech support they will get me the range of the sending unit so that I can possibly match it up with some after market unit.

Thanks very much for the ebay link. If all else (meaning local and cheaper) fails then I will get one from him.
It looks different from the one that I took out today but I think if it matches the gauge then it should work fine.

We purchased a sending unit from this company for the fuel tank in our MC-8. Their sending unit has no moving parts. It works off capacitance (I think). Jack

Thanks Jack
How long have you used it?
I like the idea of no moving parts
were you able to use the fuel gauge in the dash or did you have to get the panel from them as well.
I have sent them an e-mail looking for options and pricing.

We have used it for about 8 years. They told me how to test my gauge (I think I used an ohmmeter) and they calibrated the sender to my existing gauge. The part that goes inside the tank is a small aluminum rod (about 3/16") centered in an aluminun tube (about 1/2" diameter) using plastic spacers. Jack
