I just learned that an MC-9 with a DDEC Series 50. I have heard of the Series 60 and what I hear is good, but what about the 50? I went to DD's web site and learned it has only 4 cyls! Each one is 2 liters big! Now I have owned a '87 4 cyl Grand Caravan till it's got 225,000 miles on it - it's almost dead. I can say my van was always underpowered. But it has stood the test of time. My question is: Is a 4 cyl powered bus a bad idea? It has a little more bhp & torque than a 6V92T, but, what about vibration and long life? They have to counterbalance the 4 with a counter rotating counter-balance. Is this sufficient? Please give your estimates and knowledge as well as your opinions. I don't want trouble. I admit I don't know much about these things. Experience knows best... |

I have touched on this before but with the proper transmission setup and the right motormounts to counter vibration a series 50 poweered MC-9 will really move. The series 50 has even been put into 102C3's with great sucess. |

Karl, Where can I find out more about about the "proper" transmission setup and the "right" engine mounts. Where I live there are a lot Freightliner tandem dump trucks and all drivers I talked to are quite impressed with the Series 50. They don't seem to be much noisier than other engines. Thanks |

TO do a transplant , just find a Mfg. who is currently building what you want, and get the motor mounts {or just the #} from him. FAST FRED |
