Can someone (R.J.) look up the delivery record on 1960 PD4106-EXP for me. My brother just bought this coach and the story is it was sold new to the Chev/Cadilac dealer in Beverly Hills as a shell. It was fully re-converted around 1996 by Paradise Coach and is beautiful. Has 138K original miles. The above serial no. is on the title, we have not picked up the bus yet to check what is stamped on it. Never heard of one that was EXP. Can someone elaborate? By the way, this was Ron Bishop's bus, "High Steel". Thanks. |

So many times you hear the story, the unbelievable story about the history of a particular vehicle. Sometimes you are lucky enough to hear it "1st hand" but most of the time it's the neighbor of an in-law's uncle kind of deal. I call 'em "around 6 corners and down the street 9 blocks" kind of stories. THIS one has to rank up there near the top with anyones first hand story collection ...."EXP on the TITLE!.....INDEED!! What does it mean Mark? Well Bud it's a SECRET code that really instructs your Bro upon acquisition of said vehicle to turn it over to ME for the tidy sum of ONE US Dollar. According to my feeble mind, 1960 is PRE 4106 production, weren't they still pumping out '04's like little doughnuts in 1960? |

Well, According to GMC Coach records. EXP420/001 went to GM Engineering some time during 1960. Then on 02/1962 it went to Yellow Equipment & Terminals (Yellow Transit Freight Lines) Indianapolis,IN. If this is the same PD-4106 It should be PD-4106-001 on the serial number stamp in the steering compartment under the drivers seat. jlv |

"The first one made and still running." With modest, rational maint it will be running 100 years from now, FF |

Well, we picked up the bus and it indeed is stamped: PD4106-EXP420 !! There is no "001" stamped after that. So my question to you fortunate guys that have the production records is this: do the records show any 4106 produced before this one? Research told me that regular production did not start till March 1961, and this one was built in late 1960. So is this the very first one?? Thanks. By the way, would anyone be so kind to PDF me the early GM production records. I would be grateful, as I own PD3751-484 (ex Pacific GHL). |

Sorry to hear about Ron. What an incredible bus find though. 138K miles?? Wow. About 10 years ago, we met our first bus nuts who owned a 4104 that had been in Govt. service since new. They said Eisenhower had used it and it spent 40 years in a hanger waiting for somebody to go somewhere. They had bought it from a car lot that picked it up at Govt auction. It had just about 100K on it. The bus was named "Dash Hound" (the owners had weiner dogs) in case anybody sees it somewhere. |

Mark - Yup, it's the very first one! My goodness, what a find!! Of course, now we all want pics! Out of curiosity - does it have the emergency exit door driver's side rear like the 4104s? Some early '06's came with them. Please PM me for your other request - my email is in my profile. FWIW & HTH. . .

Thanks RJ! No rear door. Bays and compartments, weather stripping, etc., look new. It was repowered by Ron with a 6V92TA and auto, looks like an RTS power pack. Have not got it up on my lifts yet to check the underside. The late owner put a ton of money into it, the conversion was done by Larry at Paradise Coach in Eugene, OR and it was painted by Mike Wilson in Eugene. Larry was fresh out of Marathon when he converted this one, one of his first. So it looks like a mini Marathon kinda. I'm computer challenged so don't know how to resize the pics, but I will PM them to you. Now we have to find more info on the previous owner(s), at least two of the three are now deceased. Thanks RJ. |
