The horn did not work on my '81 MCI MC 9. The PO installed a different steering wheel, but never connected the horn. I found the correct wire in the dash and connected it to the small spring-loaded contact on the side of the steering column (just below the turn signal unit). I then connected the wire under the horn button to the horn button and the horns worked! Great, fixed, I thought.

Then I started turning the steering wheel back and forth and at certain points on the compass, the horn honks. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Maybe those are the directions the bus wants to go? :>) You must have a wire that is making contact with something when you turn the wheel. Look for a bare spot or where it is pinching or making contact and that should solve your problem...might have to replace the whole wire with new.

make sure the sleeve that the spring loaded contact rides in is completely seated in hole in new steering wheel. I had the same problem with a VIP wheel for quite a while. The spring and contact was able to bend over and contact the brass disc, causing the horn to blow at times because I didn't push the sleeve down far enough. When I would pull the wheel, it would look ok. The sleeve should have a good friction fit.

The "top" (cap of the steering wheel)...has started "popping off" (age?) at indiscriminate times....very interesting, in certain situations....:-)

I shrug my shoulders at whoever might be looking my way....smile (or frown), make an "adjustment" and just keep on traveling......:-) :-)

Best wishes!

I pulled a smi trlr for a while that once I turned the marker lights on the only way they would turn off is if you pulled the light cord out of it. Simply turning off the switch was ineffective.

Apon mention of this to the comedian I was running with at the time he suggested, when they continue to burn after the light cord has been removed, then we have an issue.

I would check around the drag link as well as the column, it is the only other thing with movement that could be around wiring.
