This is for the house, not bus... This is the same thought as april 10, 2003 thread... a pair of 12 volt golf cart batts on a trickle charger, to run all the low voltage lighting, back-up sump pump, etc... question: any thoughts on best chargers? ps...venting enclosed batt box to outside is no problem ;) thanks for any input... al spanjer |

I have the same set-up at my shop. I got a small "floating" charger from Wal-Mart. Its not very big, and doesn't boil the electrolite. Has a small green light on it when battery is charged to capasity. I think I paid around $30 bucks for it.It will charge more than one battery at a time, as long as their wired in paralell- 12 volts. |

Why not just use the engine batteries for back-up. Connect banks with a 50 amp continuous duty Ford type solenoid (the metal case ones) on a switch. Harbor Freight has a 12v 1 amp trickle charger, floats at 13.5v, abt. $12, $8 when on sale, if u go with the backup batteries. |

Good luck with H-F's Chinese junk! I had three in as many days trying to get one that worked. The store here gave up and refunded my money, and due to other customer's problems pulled them off the shelf. ...JJ |

Can't disagree on the quality. I bought 3 of them about 2 yrs. ago. 1 went South in a couple of months, 1 is still working on my lawn tractor, and the 3rd is still in the box somewhere in the shop. |

This thread reminds me; awhile back folks were talking about a 24 volt, Sears charger that was on sale. If I recall, quite a few people bought them and they didn't work. Mine didn't either but I'm 150 mi. from Sears so I never took it back to Sears. I recently decided to take a look inside and found that 2 wires had not been hooked up. Now It works just fine, Glad I kept it. John |
