Hi guys, I just installed a brand new Carrier 15K BTU "Air V" rooftop AC. It's level within specs and wired correctly. I can hear the compressor running and the fan is blowing. To see and hear the unit, you'd think it's working perfectly, but it's blowing hot air (about 102, same as outside air temp). It's set to "High Cool", and the thermostat is set for maximum cooling. Anything to do or check before I box it back up and get a replacement? Thanks in advance for any help. Debo |

Check the temperature of the smallest line coming from the compressor when it is running. If the line is not hot, you are out of freon or the compressor is broke. |

Make extra sure your compressor is running or not. Mine has a time delay that takes several minutes before the compressor starts and it begins to cool. The delay is there so the Freon equalizes between cycles. To keep things inexpensive and uncomplicated, it delays even at initial startup. |

Hey thanks guys. I checked the copper lines as Larry suggested, and the small one that runs to the condenser coil is definetely hot. Laryn, good call. The compressor is running. Here's a couple of other troubleshooting points... The compressor has what appears to be a smaller tank mounted to its side. Out of that tank is a larger copper line that goes to the evaporator coil. It's about the same temperature-wise as outside air temperature. There are a couple of smaller copper lines that run from the condenser coil to the evaporator coil. Up by the evaporator coil, they're freezing cold. As a matter of fact a little ice is forming on the line from the outside humidity. Thanks for helping me troubleshoot this guys. I know I can send it back if it's truly broken, but if it's something I can easily fix, I'd rather not wrestle that thing off the top of the bus again if I can help it. Thanks again for the assistance. Debo |

Debo, Your unit is either low on charge, from a factory error, or a leak, or has a workmanship error in the factory brazing. Both have the same symptoms. It doesn't sound like your unit is a heat pump, so a stuck reversing valve wouldn't apply. The tank on the side of the compressor is called an accumulator, and the line coming from the evaporator coil to the accumulator should be COLD. As it is not, all of the Freon left is evaporating in the capillaries between the condenser and the evaporator inlet, causing what is called a "starved evaporator." This is a hazard of online purchases... G |

Oh well, thanks for the education guys. After quite a bit of internet research and the wise counsel of the board, I think George has hit it on the head. Off the bus and back in the box it goes. Many thanks. Debo |

Take it to a Carrier dealer in your area they will replace it no need to ship it back if it was new and not a recon.unit Carrier is great with their warranties to bad they left the RV market that was a good unit it used the condensation water to cool the condenser that the reason they need to be level (Message edited by luvrbus on July 16, 2010) |
