Lately, I've noticed what appears to be motor oil mixed with water being dumped on the ground . Its coming from the pressure pop-off valve that drains the wet air tank. How much oil is normal befor replacing the compressor? Should I replace the compressor and air dryer right away, or is a little oil acceptable? Air pressure stays at 100-125 all the time. Comments??

Doug don't wait to long, its not going to get any
better and it will do a lot of damage. The way I
look at it is that it will have to be replaced so
why not do it now before it does other damage.

Doug,

What model bus? Is the discharge coming from the wet tank drain valve (either electrically or pneumatically operated with each brake application) or from the air dryer purge valve which opens each time the govener operates?

Any significant moisture from the air dryer purge valve indicates that the cartridge should be replaced.

My bus is a 1966 Eagle-01. The valve that releases pressure dumps water and oil mixture from the wet tank, just ahead of the left drive weeels. It seems that the compressor just keeps pumping until a preset pressure[125 pounds] is reached and the relief valve "pops" open for a second or two, letting the excess pressure, along with any condensented water drain on the ground thru a pair of copper 1/4 inch lines. Motor oil is also being added to the mix. If the oil is being introduced thru the worn compressor, can it travel farther up the line into the other tanks, or because its heavy, does it all exit at the wet tank pop-off valve?I have never checked the "dryer since I have had the bus[Two years]so I know it must be contaminated. Theres no way to even reach the dryer unless I take it to a garage that has a pit, so a man can get under the bus and remove it from below. How much damage can this leaking compressor cause? Change it out now, or wait till it gets worse? Motor oil can't be good for air lines, but is the oil getting to the lines? Seems to be getting dumped out the bottom of the wet tank befor it has a chance to go farther up the line. Theres no sign of oil in any of the other tanks.
