I've got a four-door Norcold 120VAC/Propane refrigerator/freezer in my bus. On a recent two-week trip, we didn't have any shore hookups, so the fridge ran on propane the entire time. I have a 40 LB tank and it was very nearly empty at the end of two weeks. Would that be considered normal usage? It was mid-summer and hot, so the fridge did get a workout. Thanks, | ||

One 20lb tank of LP usually lasts me a couple of weeks but my Norcold is only 6 CF. It sounds to me as if yours is probably a 10 or 12 CF model so that usage is probably about right. Only another nut with the same size frige can really answer your question. Also, there may be a usage chart in your frige manual under Specs. | ||

Some of it will depend on how hot it is, the rest of it will depend on how many times a day the doors are opened and how long people stand there looking. :>) | ||

probably use a lot of propane because you have two different brands of beer. Just keep one brand/type in reefer and propane consumption will drop. | ||

IF the unit is not properly vented , the Mfg style exterior with full sized air flow the unit will eat more propane. Get the Mfg installation instructions and review it was done BY THE BOOK! High gas pressure will also give problems , an RV place will measure it for you precisely and for cheap. FF | ||

Umm, I think he said 40 pounds, which at about 4 1/4-4 1/2 pounds per gallon, is a little less than 10 gallons capacity! 80% of that is about 6 1/2 gallons, and with some left, means 5 gallons burned in two weeks, which ain't much! G | ||

SERVICE is also part of a Propane fridge. IF the burner flame is not set well, the exhaust will get plugged with fine carbon shmootz. Your friendly RV store will have a specific brush for cleaning the unit , the Mfg will give burner adjustments on line . WE have a large really old (sez Motorola not Dometic) unit in a ply box on the back deck (propane could drain overboard) painted white. The sun hits the fridge all FL day.WE burn thru a BBQ "20lb" tank in 18 days. FF |
