George I kind of interveened on the other post which was not very polite. Thank you very much. My 8/71 does smoke very black on power, so much I watch all the time because with the black smoke comes heat and I let off fuel peddle. My email will not send so that is why I am using this. NEOregon seems not to have much for mechanic's and at present brakes are hanging up and don't want to go much more than a short distance. Also I don't know the number for a standard injector/ Your help for all of us is wonderful please don't stop. Larry |

Larry Just a few things to check till George gets back to you so you can tell him what you have checked. Are the brakes adjusted too close. By this I mean that the brakes were adjusted to stop the drum turning and not backed off to free the drum for the final setting. If only one hanging up then it could be a seized cam bushing. A SMALL amount of grease should be applied to each of the brake fittings each time you do a grease job. The standard injector # at standard cam settings is N60. If you go to N65 or larger you should set the cam at advanced settings. This requires removing the rear housing on the engine to repostion the gear meshing. Is the air filter clean? Did you see if squirrels or mice built a nest in the air duct leading from the vent on the side of the bus to the air chamber above where the rear seat used to be. There should be a removable panel above the engine to get into this area. Is the emergency stop flap fully released above the blower? Just a few things to check and I hope George doesn't mind my post to you so you can give him a little more info. Bill |

George and Bill From all the questions I have asked to all I know, I think some of the people adjusting brakes have not known to push in on bolt and have manhandled and broken the locking system. Don't know but a fleet owner said if locking system is broken, after adjusting, the setting could go to lockup or freeup. Brakes were having to be adjusted about every three to five k miles. As for heavy black smoke, has been this way since owning about five years, try to replace filter every year. I can check filter and area again, just can't go under coach. After repair to me should be able to do more |

Easy job to unbolt rear valve cover on 4905 and see what the injector label says. 10 minute total job. Less if cover has knobs. |
