AM working on a very fine 6-71 by Gray Marine of WW II vintage. Detroit Model 671919, SER 1116591 Instead of the numbering system we now use the injector Sez, GM HV 7 By the style engine HN9 they "should be " N 90's ,and the timing is advanced,, but 1943 was a long time ago. Anyone have an old enough book to decipher "HV7"? FAST FRED |

Thanks Jose, Happily the 1.460 is the one for the C-60's injectors for the 8V in my coach , so I already have one. But I'm still wondering how many cc it delivers,( in other words what todays injector equivelant is) Does your book have a fuel or Bmep map ? Or a hp/ fuel consumption chart? Will be installing a Flow Scan , bought a few months ago. These have 2 transducers that measure fuel going in , and the return , and a gage reads the GPH instantly , also has clock & built in totalizer , to keep track of actual fuel used.Should help not running out of fuel , after I figure out how big the tank is. Should be great for getting the best milage , but if as I suspect I only use a bit of the power avilable , I would switch to smaller more efficent injectors . But for that I need to know what these are. Perhaps the 7 in HV& stands for 70's as we call them today? FAST FRED |

Fred; Now Your trying to make me work ! Had to get out the Big Heavy Book Book; In-Line 71 Engines GM Diesel Maintenance 6SE177(22) Rev. 12-64 Sec.2.1 Fuel Injector pg.2 Injector 70-HV7, Spray Tip 7-006-1655H , Plunger 7H (was 7 or 7T ) Timeing Dimension 1.460 Spray tip info. First numerial indicates # of spray holes, followed by size of holes, and angle formed by spray from holes. Letter "H" or no letter indicates current "high valve" letter "O" indicates old valve in spray tip. In the text on this page it states: The number on the tag indicates the nominal fuel out put of the injector in cubic millimeters. ( I would guess that the HV7 was the 70-HV7 haveing 70 cu.-mm as in the above posting ) Under Testing 2.1 pg 10 Fuel Check Chart Injector 70-HV7, Fuel Output - Min.30-Max.36 2.1 pg 31 fig. 54 Fuel Check Chart Injector N55, Fuel Output Min.24 - Max.30 ''''''' N60 "'''''''''''''30 - '' 36 '''''''' N65 '''''''''''''''40 - ''' 46 '''''''' N70 '''''''''''''''38 - ''' 44 '''''''' N80 '''''''''''''''44 (3655) 50 These test set for 1000 strokes on Injector Compactor J 7041 [ Note it does not give what the min.& max quanities relate to, only numbers on the vile on machine J 7041 } It appears that the HV7 has the same specs. as the N60 as far as fuel delivery, how ever, the HV7 has 7 spray holes, and the N60 has 8 [N60 spray tip 8.0055-165A, plunger 6N ] Operator's Manuel SE60 Reprinted 6-53 Sec.2 pg 11 The Fuel Flow Chart Tank > Check valve > Strainer > Pump > Fuel Filter > Inlet Manifold > Injectors > Outlet Manifold > Restriction Elbow > Tank [The restriction elboe is there to help maintain fuel in the body of the injector to keep it cool ] This is more work than I've done on a engine in 10 years, I need a vacation !
