My Brother gave me the old dish from his Prevost but someone cut the wires and removed the controls I can't find a name on the thing anywhere. It has one coax and an 8 pin conector. How many difernt dishes are there?

Thanks Rick

Many names same dish basically. What you are interested in is the feedhorn. There are dual LNB, single LNB, Low temp LNB. You can even use a small KU-Band dish for Direct & Dish as long as you have the right LNB.

If you are talking about the mount you probably have a Moto-Sat.

As Gary says, in all likelyhood you have a Moto-Sat since until recently they were the most common of the signal seeking systems. Along with the dish itself, you will need a receiver with a low-speed data port, which does not come with all recievers (usually u have to buy a more upgraded receiver to get this port). It is for a feedback between the dish and receiver and that is the purpose of the 8-pin DIN connector. 2nd most likely maker is Datron. Assuming this to be an earlier unit, it will probably not give u optimum service for DISH 500 but should work fine for Direct TV. It will also work for DISH, but will have to move btwn 2 satellites, depending on what u choose to watch. If u get the FMCA magazine, try contacting one of the advertisers in the back that deal in satellite equipment. They should be able to get u going with parts
