I have a 4104 and I changed out the front spindles, steering arms, brake drums and hubs... from a Grumman 870. It's all Rockwell standard stuff. The only thing you have to do is remove the auxiliary fuel tank, if you still have one bolted on the front bulkhead. That tank was for the air conditioner motor. The reason you have to remove the aux tank is that the steering arms are longer, and the tie rod will bump into the aux tank on the bulkhead. I used a Sheppard steering gear, but I bought it from the Sheppard Manufacturing Company in PA (remanufactured). The 870 steering gear won't work because it will steer backwards (ha ha). But if you change to a bevel gear from a 4106, 4905, 4107, or 4108, you can then use the 870 steering gear. The only bevel gear that turns the wrong way is the 4104. Lots of luck!! But you'll like it when you get done, really. |
