I'm late in posting an apology to all those that I contradicted regarding the allowable positions an AGM battery my assume.

I installed 8x Lifeline AGM batteries for my needs and was assured by more than one battery rep that they could be place in ANY position, including upside down, and they would be fine/not leak. So I put 4 on the floor and 4 upside down directly over them so their terminals were only inches apart for very short, but equal, cable lengths.

WRONG! I, not too long ago, replaced my 2x 2512SW inverters with a single 48-volt unit. So, I removed the batteries for the new cable design -- there was a trickle and a stain on the wood supporting the batteries that were upside down. It was not serious, but they leaked -- period.

So, disregard the Lifeline reps and ads -- AGM batteries may be in any position you want, except upside down.

Just setting the record straight,
Randy

I don't know where you read you could mount them upside down, but I've also talked to the factory Lifeline reps, and they specifically said any position EXCEPT upside down. I've seen 8D's on their side on a shelf in yachts. Good Luck, TomC

TomC, I have literature dated 2003 that states you can installed the Lifelines upside down and also have been told by the reps you could.
Marathon did it with 8-8D battery setup
FWIW I did call Lifeline and they don't recommend it now.
