I'm having a hard time getting the wiper motors out of my 53 4104 and remember someone had changed to electric motors and wipers. Can anyone help with this or fixing my old air ones and how they come off?
thanks

My 58 04 wiper motors are attached to the outside panel that the arm connects to. The one with the turn signal light attached to. Remove the screws and pull the trim plate out the front.

It's not getting them out. It's that the Trico-Folberth motors are obsolete & you can't get parts anymore. Later buses use pantograph wipers which mount very differently, about 10" farther down the front of the bus. (Look at a 4107 or 4905) There is also a structural support that has to be cut to install newer style motors.

you can go to any Kenworth or Peterbuilt Truck parts dealer and get brand new air wiper motors.

I got the motor out, thanks Sam, but, Doug I can't find the truck wiper motors, is there a part number you might have? All the truck parts houses around here, which aren't many, act like i'm crazy! Is there a part number?
I thought someone changed to electric on the 04 and it seemed like an easy fix. Anyone know about that?
thanks

Edwin, I have a pair of motors from a 4905 if you think they will fit on your frames. Try Mohawk Mfg. (800-323-7652)[info@mohawkmfg.com] for repair kits for yours. ...JJ

sorry I don't have a part #

Our Mechanics found them as he is very good finding things that are still made but sold as something else.

If you take one in to a KW or Peterbuilt shop they should recognize it.

Air wipers were in trucks until recently

The wiper motors from a 4905 or 4106 WILL NOT fit to replace the 4104 wiper motor. I have a 4104 and a 4905. Take a look at pictures of the front of both buses. The 4104 has car type wipers that fold down to the bottom of the windshield. The later buses have two arm pantograph wipers that park vertically in the center of the windshield. It is POSSIBLE to mount the pantograph wipers but you have to hack out an angle iron body support inside the front skin. You will also have a funny looking dimple on the wiper mounting plates where the original wiper arm went. Having both buses, I can tell you that the view is nicer with the 4104 wipers.

I would investigate the truck air wiper thing. I think they park the same way as the 4104.

Let us know how you make out.

The air wipers on my '94 Freightliner park like a car, send me a pic of what yours looks like with relevant measurements, and I can compare it to the Freightliner unit.
Peter.

Edwin,
Are you trying to send them direct to me or post them here? Direct would be best as I am not sure of the proceedure on posting pics to Ian's site without him doing it.
The Freightliner motor is about 5" wide and 4.5" inches high, it mounts from behind onto a bracket which bolts to the firewall. With the Freightliner the bracket allows the motor to be bolted to the firewall with the shaft going througfh the firewall. It's a bit difficult to get an accurate measurement as it is within the mounting bracket the overall size of bracket and motor is approximately 8.5" wide and 4.5".
Peter.

Peter.
