I do not know any specifics, but we are full timing in Colorado...and the folks we talk to from here are registering their "rigs" in Montana because of Colorado's tax laws regarding motor homes.

Hope you do not need an emmission test, better have her check. I reg. all my vehicles in SD, we use my dakota address.com, had Miss Terri take titles across street to county court house, get plates, mail to me. No taxes, have owned coach, and jeep for a while, no inspection needed. any ????? call me. Several bus nuts live in Co.

Wayne, the first question is: how is your bus registered today? Second question is where?

If you bus is still registered as a bus in some other state, you will need to have an inspection done to assure the state that it is a motorhome. Colorado has a list of things that constitute a motorhome and you have to have something like 7 of the 10 or so items listed. Does not take much if you have most things done.

If it is registered as a motorhome in some other state, you will need a VIN inspection before you can change the title.

Next is the issue of emissions. The "front range" counties require an emissions test (dyno and $120) each year. Your bus would qualify of the classic plates and that gets you out of the emissions requirement.

Since you are full time, you can probably register it in any state. Montana used to be the choice, but some states have clamped down on legal residents of a different state and forced them to pay taxes. Colorado has gone after folks in a big way. Again if you can prove that you full time (not sure how you do that), then any state will do. South Dakota seems to be a popular state.

Back to CO. I was able to license my '85 Eagle last year as a classic. They now have changed the law and I think it has to be a '75 or older, but yours would qualify. There is no restriction on use (as is the case with some states). You do have to buy 5 years worth of license, but that is not too bad (mine was $607 for the 5 years)

The bus is registered as an RV in Calif.
Jim, I don't understand the "five years worth of license". Does that mean the bus would be registered for 5 years at time?
Thanks for the info Guys. Lots of questions with going full time. Wayne

Wayne, classic plates in Colorado have to be purchased in 5 year increments. It has been that way for many years. I think that has something to do with trying to keep junkers off the road and focus the classic plates on cars that justify the term classic. Having said that, you see a few junkers but that is the nature of the beast.

At one time they made you do an emissions test before they give you the classic plates. Not sure if they do that now. If they do, a 2-stroke in good condition should pass.

If your daughter lives outside the emission required area, it is academic.

Jim, that is pricey for tags here in AZ regular tags for Wayne's bus would only be 35 bucks for 2 years and antique plates are less.Texas antique plates are only 5 bucks a year

I'm now thinking about Az. or S.D. for mail drop and bus Registration. I refuse being ripped off in CO. Can't afford much expense.
Thanks again for the comments, Wayne
