Just and update on a project that I have been following and sometimes lending a hand on when there, is I thought you might like to know that our friend and fellow buser Steve Siems with the Neoplan like yours has finally completed his engine swap of his 8v92 to the 14 liter 60 series and JUST today took it for his first on the street out of the shop test run. All worked as planned with the exception of a CEL which was Low Coolant. Once topped off, that code was gone.
It shifted great, ran great and had way more power than the 8V.
One small issue with the speedometer which was his own doing since he also re-did the entire dash with a GLASS DASH but to my understanding that too is fixed!
Many Many parts were hand fabricated and or ordered in special for this swap. It not only looks good with still plenty of room in the engine bay but sounds good and now runs good! It has taken since the first of June but many original ideas and plans were changed mid stream which slowed the process. It was fun to stop by after work and on days off and watch and sometimes help the lead mechanic (Joe) on this project as I learned a lot from being there and helping hands on.
Not sure of the final outlay. That was none of my business but I will say, IF I had the dough I would do it in a heartbeat!
Steve and his coach should leave here sometime tomorrow (Sunday) for home (Ft. Lauderdale) and then he say's he will head out to Texas and then meet up with us again in Hoboken Ga. at the Rally! It was a pleasure to meet him and his wife Harriet at the last rally and as this project progressed, we spent many nights talking buses, joking and throwing punches over late night dinners with John and Lynn Silver from Central Florida bus who had the men at his shop to do this transformation. After seeing this happen before my very eyes, I would recommend them to work on any type bus!

Now after Steve leaves, what do we do for fun and excitement? Hey maybe I can get MY bus finished!

Nah, I hear there's an Eagle that might be coming in for a Series 50 swap! :-)

Ace,

Thanks for the update. He had sent me a couple of photos a month or so ago showing the engine progress.

We're going to miss Hoboken, even though we are going right by it this year, because ironically we are due in Fort Lauderdale that weekend. I just dropped Steve a note, and we're hoping to see them (and the engine work) after we return from a week-long cruise there.

We are due in Fort Lauderdale again in January, so likely will be staying close to Florida for the two intervening months. Perhaps we will be able to do the Arcadia rally again this year. Maybe Steve will consider that as well, and if Lou Kirk shows up again, that would make three ex-Pegasus Neoplan Spaceliners together at a single rally, probably a record...

Speaking of Central FL Bus, I need the same ECM upgrade that you do, to the newer PROM, in order to fix my VMS speed/odo problem. Perhaps one of the things we will do while cruising FL in November or December is to see if they can take care of that for us.

Sean when you upgrade your ecm so your silverleaf will work properly, are you going to change injectors and turbo or are you JUST upgrading the chip and keeping the same HP rating you have? I would like the ecm from Steve's old 92. It's set at 500 hp and has been upgraded but not sure I want the hassle of changing other items.

Cliff, I have been trying to find that out ever since I bought mine. Hard to say, but it is somewhere in the neighborhood of a dozen. All the early ones were two axles, and there is a lot of weight on that drive axle. Mine is one of the first (maybe the first) three-axle that they did, and Steve's is one of the last (maybe the last) Neoplan's they ever converted, and one of the very few US-built Spaceliners. Pegasus actually went out of business before they finished Steve's coach, and it was finished by Fantasia Coach, started by ex-Pegasus guy Jim Swingholm. Fantasia, too, is now history.

Mine's already set up for 475 HP, so I don't see much value in trying to change the program. I'd just like to get the Silverleaf working right.
