I have an 04 with a 6-71. It smokes pretty good at startup. White smoke. - Not bad once it warms up - but when the trottle is opened or load is applied it puts the white smoke out pretty good.
It is pretty volitile - make your eyes water. I am just wondering what the source is - oil or fuel - I have the book on the way but would like some info from the experts. People who have been there are alot more help than the book.

Thanks Much

Buddy,

It is most likely unburned fuel caused by low compression. There is a small possibility the smoke could be caused by a faulty injector.

First make sure the valve clearance and injector timing are set properly. Once you confirm the settings remove the exhaust manifold and run it to see which cylinder is smoking. If all are smoking low compression is most likely the problem. If one is smoking swap the injector with a cylinder that is not smoking. If the problem moves with the injector, the injector is bad. If it doesn't move low compression in that hole is the problem.

Good Luck,
Doug
