Anyone with any input into house battery monitors?
I found one on line called a battery bug. it seems to have a lot of features that are of interest to me but never having had one I would like to hear opinions from others.
some of my questions would be
what sort of amp range should it be ie. the one I found on line is rated to 300 amp hours.
Does this mean that if my battery bank exceeds 300ah it wont work?
Will it monitor a bank of batteries or only 1 battery?
Any input guys?
Les

I have been very happy with my Link monitor by Xantrex. I use it probably more than any other peice of equipment on board. Would not be without one in the future. www.xantrex.com

Hi Les,
I have a TriMetric 2020 with a 500 amp shunt, I think the new one is a 2025. It tells you everything you want or need to know about the state of your batteries. I don't think it's possible to have a battery bank of any size without a monitoring system if some kind.

Usually it's the shunt that is amp rated and not the monitor itself. The shunt is the part that is hooked up to you negative battery post and counts the amps both coming and going. They usually come in different sizes. The 300 amp means that it will pass 300 amps thru it before it turns to toast. The amp rating has nothing to do with the size of your battery bank and everything to do with the number of amps you will be using at a time. I wanted to provide a 30 amp circuit at 120 volts with my inverter, that's about 300 amps so thats why I chose a 500 amp shunt.
Good Luck
Jerry

I will chime in here; i have the same Trimetric setup Jerry does. Very nice system and will probably provide you with more info than you need. If you get the new model, i would be curious as to what changes they have made to it.

I will order the trimetric 2025 from a Canadian company called bogart engineering.
The biggest difference between the new 2025 and the older unit is that the 2025 also lets you monitor the chassis batteries. Other than that the electronics are the same.
$189.00 canadian plus $16 shipping
thanks for the help again everyone

Thanks Les No problem I'll contact them, seems like the $189.00 is a fair price for that set up.
