What a centerfold! Perhaps |@n will someday publish a Coffee Table book of all of the bus photos he has from the 'Board? Wouldn't it be nice to start on a conversion of that beheamoth? Probably expensive to park too- you know- two spaces ? Wonder what the insurance is on a beast like that? ...JJ

This Neoplan is called the Starliner. It does look big. I am sure it is still made in Germany, therefor it is a 12 meter bus and that is just under 40'. When I visited the Neoplan factory three years ago this bus was just coming into production, for Europe only. What a beautyfull piece of equipment. Neoplan does make a real monster bus it is a 15 meter bus (about 48')called the Mega-liner. My conversion I am using right now is a 40' RTS, but the bus I am working on is a Neoplan Space-liner. Now this is a big bus and I am a little scared to take it out for my first run.

Yes they do build buses in CO. As a matter of fact, they are very proud to be a US company. This is, of course, from their website. Go to www.neoplanusa.com for the rest of their propaganda. Just kiddin'.
But really, they have pics and specs on all their coaches, and a virtual plant tour. Neat!
Check 'em out. Bill

The Auwaerter Family did built the Neoplan in Germany. Neoplan was sold to M.A.N. last year.
The An 340 and AN 440 in being built in CO since
1979. The City-liner since 1982 and the Sky-liner and Space-liner since 1985. Anyhow that is my understanding. The Star-liner is sold in the U.S.A. now, but I don't think it is made here yet.
If you look in the BUSWORLD magazine vulume 22 of April 1999 you can read about my visit to Neoplan. Also there is picture of the Mega-Skyliner and that is what I call a big bus.

Yes I am building a mega skyliner 128/4 neoplan. It has to be short 3 ft. to make it illegal in most States. By removing the factory roof vent you can raise the roof six inches and still keep get under 13-6. They are only 99 in. wide I may go to 102. There is only 16 128/4 in the U.S. they all come from the Kennedy Space Center. I know one has been junked so others only 15 left. I am raising the roof on my shop 4 feet To 16 ft. So the thing will fit. With the 4 steer tires in front is the best driving bus I have driven.

I am converting a Neoplan Spaceliner and I know what you talking about. The Spaceliner is just under 13' tall and I also had to install a bigger overhead door to get it into my shop.

I thought these were too long to take on the road at all without a permit? Are you saying you can actually hop on the freeway with one of those beasts and drive off into the sunset?
I rode on those busses at the Kennedy Space Center, and of course wanted to have one of my very own! Right now I'm working on an old MCI7 - more within my budget.
Can't wait to see your's when it's done, hope you'll post pictures.
Anyone who has $55K can go to http://www.a-zbus.com/UsedBuses/coachinventory.htm.

I was the first one to hit the road with128/4 mega liner. I made it from Florida to Seattle never got pulled over but it was the legal in all the states I traveled through. In has to be shortened almost 3 ft. and then in some states you can only get 5 mi. off the freeway and California doesn't like them at all. Left Orlando and 66 hours later was in Seattle there was three of us driving the 66 hours was fueling and eating. Six and a half miles a gallon top speed 60 mi. an hour, up the grave vine in California at 45 mi. an hour come down the backside slow note Jake break no retard. If any more questions e-mail me

Just out of curiosity, how much did you have to pay for your double decker, 4-axle bus?

I well play poker with you if you tell me what you have in your hand. what I paid and what I have in its two different stories. 2 trips from Seattle to Orlando looking at then. Hiring a survey done plus mechanic to get it road ready ,4 steer axel tires 700 gal. of fuel + airline tickets for me and 2 buds to help drive it back. plus phone calls to the Kennedy Space Center once a month for over two years. I put lot work into it and they can I got a fair deal. And hold Aces but it was no royal flush
