I need to replace my house batteries. I am looking for suggestions as to specicaly what battery to buy. Here is some of the info I understand will be needed to decide which battery is best.
1. I have a four battery set up in the center bay, on the right side of the coach. My diesel 12.5 kwt generator is on the other side of the same bay.
2. Most of the usage will be while pluged into shore power.
3. I have a Freedom 20 inverter/battery charger
The 12 volt wet cell warm tempature bulk voltage is 13.9, Max time is 1 hr.
4. Usage will be for the 8- 12 volt ceiling lights.
5. Two 12 volt Water pumps.
6. TV at night through the inverter. Radio during the day.
7. We do dry camp on trips about every third day.
If there is any other specific info needed, please let me know. I need to use the 8d wet cell type. Walmart has a list of batteries from 80 AH TO 1200AH, RV & Marine Deep Cycle Batteries By Lifeline. The AGM's would be nice but way too expensive for me at this time.

Any help would be very much appreciated, Roger

Marine Deep Cycle does not exist. As a seperate breed.

It is sometimes claimed to be a multi purpose batt , but the ratings in 20hr rate are seldom as good as a genuine deep cycle , and get a phony "marine" starting rating by using 32F instead of 0F as rating temp.

Not much difference between brands tho Trojan and Surette seem to last the longest.

There IS a HUGE difference between "Deep Cycle " batts and Start batts.

Install a SOC before the batts and then monitor your draw down.

While the set is new you can add 2 or 4 extra of the same brand if your use requires a bigger bank.

Two Lifeline AGM 8D's would be about $1,000.00. They have 255amp/hours per battery, require NO maintenance-basically install and forget about them. Personally-I think it is worth the extra money. On my truck, I'm using Lifeline L16 6v batteries that are 400amp/hrs apiece. I will use 6 of them for 1200am/hour total. Good Luck, TomC

Deka makes the 8D AGM deep cycle with 245AH. I've seen these for under $400 each. So, twice as many batteries for the same $ compared to the Lifeline AGM's. The question is, how do the Deka compare to the Lifeline? Anyone care to commment?

Roger, figure the cost per amp hour wet cell are by far the most bang for the buck you can have a 600 amp system using Sams or Costco for 400 bucks.I don't have the luck most have with AGM batteries must be the AZ heat

good luck

At Amaerican battery, they have a wet cell with 240 ah for $228.00 each. So far that is the best price for the ah. I went to Walmart, and the said they do not carry D8 type batteries in the store. Thanks for all of the help, I do appreciate very much, Roger

About a buck an amp is in the ballpark,

just be sure the batt is deep cycle and they are giving you the 20 hour rate.

but what do you mean by 20 hour rate?

The 20 hour rate is the STANDARD for compairing one deep cycle batt against another.

It is the size of the bucket of power for comparison purposes.

The CCA (cold cranking amps) is the STANDARD for comparing start batteries.

Do not confuse it with MCA (marine cranking amps) which is phoney to dupe suckers.

Ed, when the batteries are "cross-tied" like that, do the "ties" need to be as heavy gauge as the actual power-carrying cables? (Thanks for the link to the diagram that even the electronically-ignorant like me can follow.)
