Some of you may remember my questions about this bus back in November. Well I've let it lay around & now the price has come WAY down so I'm going to go ahead & buy it. There are 2 glaring issues which I will have to deal with... #1 - the throttle sticks. Whereever you push it to is where it stays. can this be lubed or does it have to be replaced? If replaced, where can I find one? #2 - the bus sinks down after sitting. I don't remember if it will air back up when running, but either way I'm looking at having to buy & install new airbags. Where can I find them? Nobody around here in Jackson, MS has a clue or wants to fool with it so I'm looking at ordering them & doing it myself probably. How hard is the install? I'd appreciate any tips/advice. I'm going this weekend during to get a look at the title so maybe I can figure out exactly what year & all it is. |

If u have cable throttle, and that's what it sounds like, They can be lubed but it is not what I would do. You can buy a new cable for about $125 from a Morse Cable supplier, generally marine parts outlets. Small price for peace of mind. As for the airbags, u can get them from Mohawk Bus Parts or Universal Coach Parts, not difficult to change. But u may find that it is not the bags but the leveling valves or leaks in connecting lines or fittings. Leveling valves are about 50-55 each |

You may be missing the return spring for the throttle... busses that sit idle tend to lose easily removable parts like this.(Five finger discount etc...) How quickly does the bus lose air in the bags? Most bus lots I have visited have even newer busses in various stages of "lean". As long as its not a large leak that would cause the compressor to run steady. Good Luck! |

As stated above, you may find it is not the air bags at all that are the problem. Or that the "problem" is not that big of a deal. My Flxible transit bus leaks down after a day too. I'll just live with it until install a manual leveling system. Having said that, I have replaced an air bag in my coach. They are available from Muncie Transit Supply. If your bus uses the same bags, be prepared to wait one month for the front bags. They have to be made-to-order from Firestone. The rear bags are more common and in stock at Muncie. Then again, you may have totally different bags that are harder or easier to find. Try the national bus parts houses like Muncie or Mohawk. It's a long shot, but a local truck shop, if they have a very good parts guy, might be able to procure them. But you need the exact bus info first, before anyone can look it up. I've got part numbers for the air bags my bus uses that I can give you, but there is no guarantee our busses use the same bags - despite similar looks and design. How much did you guys pay for your airbags? What's the going rate? Are the leveling valves hard to replace? are these cables pretty universal or do they have to be ordered for my specific model? where are those return springs....on the motor or up front? thanks guys! |

My front air bags, the ones that must be built-to-order from Firestone, cost about $105 including shipping. The rear bags are cheaper, about $80, if I recall. But with a total of 8 bags, can add up. I am only replacing them as needed, but have a spare front bag on hand due to long lead time to get them. I have not replaced any leveling valves nor throttle cable.
