What project, are you going to make a maserator pump out of it? |

Yea Joe I started one about a month ago and found out the disposal I had wouldn't work. Anyway, I got another one today and it does work but... after hooking up an old water hose for the discharge and pouring water thru the 3 inch opening, water came spewing out the hose which was about 15 feet in length. So far, so good! Then I decided to run the hose upwards over the shop rafter and back down again to see if in fact it would pump UP hill. Nothing happening here unless I wasn't adding water fast enough so I took it down and decided to try the first test again with the hose just running out the shop door. Here came water again. So, I decided to go in and rob a roll of TP. After wetting it and throwing it in the hole, turning on the disposal and adding water, more water, and more water, and even MORE water and more TP, nothing at the other end. Hmm, so here is where I take the hose off and hook up to a water spigot at the shop. Nada! I then take the hose and flex it all the way down starting at the spigot and about half way down the length, I started to get water but only after I flooded the driveway with WET TP. It appears the hose is not large enough to handle a small amount of wet TP without clogging up the hose. Now I will admit, the TP was really mutelated but not enough to go thru the hose. Now my question is, could it or would it work better with a more steady flow of "gunk" from the black tank? OR does it need a larger hose than a regular garden hose? I'm not giving up on this so any input will be helpful. It has been kind of fun tinkering with such a foolish project and it has killed the recent boredom. |

No I know that but he did mention that he held the hose above his head or about 7 feet with no problem. I think I need to just hook it up to my tank and let er rip for a real test! |

I think that you only used a water hose to supply it. He used a 100 gallon tank, which would provide quite a volume and flush quite well. When I make mine, I'll use a hose with at least an inch id with non garden hose fittings, at least in the inlet end; maybe some kind of quick couple twist lock, maybe retaining a garden hose attachment adapter at the exit end when the regular hose won't reach. I could then borrow my buddies garden hose to extend it. |

It's worth mentioning that garbarator usually exit into 1 1/2 " pipe so it's not really a surprise that they do not macerate enough for a small pipe. Might be worth looking into the guts of a real macerater for a toilet. Those things can macerate waste and lift it 10' up a 3/4" pipe |

His system may be relying on the head pressure from the tank. Used a similar system to empty the pulp tanks in a paper mill. When the tank got low enough to stop pumping we added water to increase head pressure till the solids were gone...Cable |

Since the flow pressure is created by the spinning stainlless blades, it seems to me that you could change the pitch on them to increase the flow rate. Zub.. the guts of a Jabsco macerator are pretty lame. They advertise that they can run dry, but the impeller is made of rubber, or viton or something. Run it for more than about 30 seconds and you'll be changing the impeller, at a cost of about $50 USD. |

Ace we always used a 1 in water hose. they say you should use 1 inch for the first 25ft, then you can step down to Three quarter in, we used to pump 65 ft that way, still have the hoses if you wait till I get home Mon you can borrow to try out, |

Don't know about the Jabsco, I have just had good luck with these http://www.saniflo.ca/SANIPACK.aspx but these are for residential applications. Anyhow the reason I said to maybe look at one, would be to compare the pitch etc... of the macerator/pump and see if a garbarator could be tuned in that direction. |

If you increase the pitch on the blades would that not reduce the macerating effect? If the chunks are larger it will require a larger inside diameter hose to carry the effluent. Sort of defeats the purpose doesn't it? Not sure the toilet paper was a fair test anyway. If you had the unit hooked up to the discharge outlet of the black water tank it is logical to assume that any after dinner rolls would have more time to soak up liquid and naturally break down making them easier for the blades to cut up. Just my thoughts |

Ace, I do hope you set up a video camera to record the tank test. The first image that popped into my mind was the slurry system the farmers are using around here to spread cow manure. It must run through some sort of macerator to get to such a liquid form, but the best part is how they spray everyting behind them. This I want to see coming from your bus. You Tube here we come...spead manure in style from the seat of your H3-40. Can you fit floatation tires in the wells of an H3-40?? Good luck... |
