Hey All, I am at the stage where I am going to cover the plywood walls with Naugahide.I need to fill some of the imperfections in the CDX with some kind of filler and than sand the serfice to make it reasonably smooth. I was thinking about Bondo or even maybe plaster.I am thinking one of you will have a better idea.thanks in advaance. |

I personally wouldn't think about covering the plywood with Naugahide unless you put a cushion on the plywood first. It doesn't have to be a thick cushion. Just enough to cover up any imperfections such as seams and such. You can use the foam that is used under Pergo or laminate flooring. I used it with great result when I covered my ceiling. If your thinking about gluing it direct, you might find that ANY roughness, seams, splinters, knots, etc. will magnify thru the vinyl or any material for that matter. Evdn covering the plywood with wall paper needs special attention. We used a backer board on the plywood first. Actually we used door skin which is super smooth and then painted it with sizing! |

Ooh, the foam is a great idea, but I don't know what you mean by door skin.Did you glue the foam to the ceiling and then the Naugahide to the foam? |

Or...the fabric shops sell a very nice, thin and CHEAP fiber stuff, very thin....that will (used in light quilting, I think, since my BETTER half was the one who suggested it..)accomplish the same thing. We used it in MANY places through out the coach. FWIW RCB |

RCB has a good answer. Call some fabric supply houses and share what you are doing. That makes them very intrigued and they seem to get more helpful. They will sell you the substrate and glue that you need. With the right substrate between the naugahyde and plywood you may be able to forego the joint patching. David |

carpet padding come 1/2and9/16 Thick. Scraps or left-overs work great and cheap too. Glue the foam on the board, then if you are putting anykind of material over it,you can glue it also to the foam. Tuck the edges and you have a rite down Purty job. LOL gomer |

Doug the door skin was only used on the parts of plywood that we covered with paper. When we covered with vinyl, like I said, I used a thin foam that is used under laminate flooring and glued it directly to the plywood. I then covered both pieces with the vinyl by stretching it slightly and stapleing it aling with using contact cement on the back side. My entire ceiling was done this way using individual panels that I could handle by myself. I used a process that has no screws and each panel can be removed for access. A little different than walls but it still can still be done the same way. I wouldnt use carpet pad. Too thick! |

Ace; We used the carpet padding because we kinda rolled and pleated the ceiling, However thinner padding does make for a thghter look and I AGREE wid ya?? Fix it so it may be removed if at all possible especially in those critical areas. Gomer |

Problem with naugahide is that it is cold in winter and hot in the summer. I used thin indoor/outdoor gray carpet that has a nice feel to it on the walls, and is easily applied with spray contact cement (Dupont 90). My ceiling is paint gloss white with 2" wide oak strips to cover the joints. Simple, yet pleasing to the eye. Good Luck, TomC |

PAINT ,, allows for EZ repair or touch up , and should some other color be desired , good paint is $30 a gallon, and a days work. I guess the coaches with expensive wall covering still have Harvest Gold and Avacado from the 70's. Do it your way! FF |

Fred, you guessed wrong as usual. Besides, the general public (converter) would like something easy to clean and not have that paint smell. Show me a high end coach with harvest gold, avocado colors and painted walls! Well I know your decor is similar but I DID say high end coach didn't I! |

use the 1/4 foam under vinyl for soft look... apply glue with a roller then foam... ditto then the vinyl the spray glues won't hold well on the walls |

"Besides, the general public (converter) would like something easy to clean and not have that paint smell. " Guess you found the non stinking way to get fried grease our of your wall rug covering ? Or you just eat at the Salvation Army and don't have to clean up? OIL paint smells when being applied , the newer crappy water paint smells very little . Our choice is the Stock 4106 overhead , cleans up to almost new with a sponge and some "Bartenders Friend". The difference is the same as always , a coach to Cruise and live in , or one to park , stand next to and hope for acceptance. How do the "PrevOst Prouds" like your back yard beauty? FF |

"Guess you found the non stinking way to get fried grease our of your wall rug covering ? Or you just eat at the Salvation Army and don't have to clean up? " Freddie, I tell you, when will you ever learn, I DON'T have "wall rugs" and we DO eat in our coach without the lingering odors your accustom to. "OIL paint smells when being applied , the newer crappy water paint smells very little ." Again Freddie, I was commemting on your previous post about you using GOOD 30 dollar oil paint ver. that crappy water paint. I actually didn't know Krylon came as an oil paint in a rattle can. We all know that's what YOU used since your too cheap to use the GOOD stuff! "The difference is the same as always , a coach to Cruise and live in , or one to park , stand next to and hope for acceptance." I have no problem being "accepted" anywhere! Bet you could say the same about yourself and your relic! How do the "PrevOst Prouds" like your back yard beauty?" I wouldn't know to be honest. Never joined nor do I have any desire to! Doug I used commercial grade wall paper. It's thicker and more durable than the household stuff. Anyway back to your 'wall' question.. I used CDX on for my walls- then trowelled some wood filler(the thinner stuff that's white colored and is used for wallpaper prep) into the 'voids' of the CDX. It's real fast and easy. Sand when dry - then apply the covering of choice. The filler adheres nicely to the CDX and the 'covering adhesive' adheres nicely to the filler. The commercial grade wall covering is thicker and sort-of a vinyl-cloth stuff and is more forgiving of little imperfections.. Your choice of wall covering should be just fine if it has some 'body' to it. Just my way . |

I mean REALLY Fred, who ARE you kidding, but it doesn't hurt to dream I guess! Keep dreaming Freddie! Last time I looked or drove it, Jack's rally was about an hour and a half from MY place so as always, your mind went blank you spoke words of ignorance and WHO other than yourself cursed Christmas cheer? Still wondering how your relic, of what you refer to as a sports car, carries all that coal you have acquired over the years. If I were you, I think I would try and make friends with Santa. Heck he's about the ONLY guy left that you might possibly call a friend! And Freddie, Hate is a pretty strong word! Don't even think for a moment that I actually hate you! In fact, you would be glad to know, I love you bud! I love everything you do, you say, and your good looks! Heck I could even grow to love your relic! It IS a bus, at least it used to be and this IS a bus board! So, share the love! xxxooo ROFLMAO |

whatever.... when this little fire flares up, I only benefit, it takes other members minds away from questioning MY sanity... whatever THAT is! My own actual first experience with a Prevost... Intrigued by it's size & contemporary design & drawn by the "OPEN" sign, I stroll towards the open & inviting door. At the exact moment my left foot was making contact with the 2nd step, I was advised that visitors leaving fingerprints on any surface would be asked to leave. I executed an immediate military 180 & was then asked why I was leaving! I explained that my reputation was at stake by my mere proximity to someone who's standards are so low that they would allow common wage earners into their coach. You just have to develop the skills necessary to engage with people of different strata's, speak their language & mimic their behaviors to communicate with them effectively & at their level.... then you'll reach understanding! . . . See, all that money I spent at that Doug Carnegie course wasn't a waste after all...! . . . Photo of secret Prevost Owners meeting.... (Message edited by Jack Fids on November 08, 2010) |

Jack be advised that the name prevost is just that, a name, not a status as you might think. My prevost is just another bus and your welcome to lay your grimy fingerprints anywhere you wish! At least I welcome you to do so just as I have everyone else I have met. Now, that's more than I can say for some people and their sportscars... right Freddie? Nice pic by the way! Ace...when I saw my 1st 4106 conversion at the Greenville Ohio FMCA get together back in 1964(?), I thought to myself then....".is there NO END to the lengths that people will go to in impressing people they don't know? How "Over the TOP" can some people get?"... See how I have eaten those words today....a deck on top of my own 4106.....my how I have lowered my former lofty ideals eh? My FIRM position is this.... if you are crazy enough to embrace a bus as a means of trying to enjoy life...you have ALL of my pathetic & sympathetic respect! And you Sir, are no exception! I just enjoy wielding a sharp stick occasionally, my diminutive size requires that I over respond in order to retain self-respect. Even tho it appears small people sleep, actually we are just plotting against larger people with our eyes closed. ;) notice the one eye closed?...I'm thinking about YOU! I'm not sure with a wooden floor a water Pressure washer would be bright , but the Overhead Racks? They sure do make it easy to load and unload to go cruising. Of course the concept of what the bus is for , cruising a couple of months a year , or home on the road , are similar but not identical. A bus camper is all about PM , keeping a high end commercial vehicle in really safe roadworthy shape. Weather one is comfortable with a simple interior , or "needs" a home copy of a Pro conversion , is a "MY WAY" decision. The early starting days of the FMCA , a top of the line conversion was usually a GM Silversides , with dark shag rug glued to most everything. Some folks still do this as "retro", tastes vary. FF |

Truer words have never been posted on the InterNet Tubes Bill, an ill-literational entendre of that is.... By keeping it light, life never becomes heavy. Bill, you have just proven that by associating with fools you can appear to look like a genius! We know our roles well! Speaking for myself...being at the bottom of the pile, the warmth from those above me keeps me alive. |

Hmm. I did not see this post. Now I am sad. This turned into money v.s. ingenuity. You both have cool buses, nobody should put anyone else down. No matter what their bus is. Fred has a bus i want and Ace has a bus i want. No winner. Never. |

Bill Moo.... Ingenuity IS what it is all about in doing a conversion... money is just the plan B to save a butt when the ingenuity runs dry. IMHO I assume that each and EVERY "put-down" is actually either just veiled envy or good natured ribbin born of obvious difference & circumstance. Not for one minute do I believe that anything posted here is intended to be hurtful or disparaging. We are all pots & kettles and calling one black only points to our similarities & camaraderie.....of collective folly! Stan Laurel put it the best... "He who filters my good name, steals trash!" I can do that one better tho.... "He who steals my bus is driving garbage..." because everything in & on my bus came from the boneyard or was a cast-off. It's ALL in the eye of the perceptionist. . . . beside that, what in the heck does ANYONE named BILL know..? |

Fred, why would he want to paint the Naugahyde on his walls? Because he is tired of the color? The choice that was made , to use CDX ,( flooring materials ), instead of that really fine Canadian Birch plywood is probably the reason he is covering over instead of painting.Although some folks feel covered ply is quieter as the covering may absorb some road noise. Coach conversion is lots of choices, ALL of which have real outcomes , down the road. First cost and total cost are frequently very different.Desirements vary, FF |

Now Vam and Dallas, if you both convince more people to use those techniques, you take the chance of FF getting upset. You DO know that he still uses those colors and copying his coach is a definite no no. Besides. The best way to cover your walls is not to. That's right! Leave them just as they were. Now if you happen to have a neighbor that is throwing out old carpet or cabinets or bed sheets, dive right in and snatch them up. That's legal in Freddie's world and whatever you do, DON'T cover over the windows. FF is the only person I heard of that had a clear plastic pup tent when he went camping as a child. He's far from being modest. I mean, think about it. Why should he be? :o |

"copying his coach is a definite no no Not by me, So far my instructions posted for installing a truck door lock in the coach front door, and the concept of creating a double use for the shower area , by a 3 track sliding hanging locker seem to still be in use. Reinventing the wheel is a waste of life , so most folks enjoy useful concepts. Ever had an origional thought in your life? Or just BS and more ignorant HATE , HATE HATE? FF |

Freddie, when will you learn, I don't hate you! I love you man! Your just a toy. Something to play with! As for an original thought? Uhh yea, but that would only make you think I Really do hate you and thats not the case! And Freddie, the concept of taking a dump, showering and shaving out of the same 5 gallon bucket has long been replaced. Hey people actualy use plumbing in their buses now. ROFLMAO |

Basically we are talking about two different concepts... a bus that has been converted into a home and a bus that some one just lives in. Both work; just different concepts. A bathroom and job johnee both serve the same basic service, just the comfort level is different. |

I don't hate you! I love you man! Your just a toy. Something to play with! HMMMM, Last time I went to visit at Jacks get together , to find great goodies at the flea market (got a fine co pilots seat)I was talking to the nice folks that create front window covers. You drove up on a electric golf cart , looking to scrounge something for your bus camper , so I said good by to the nice folks. Your first and only words were "Good Riddance", guess that's your normal Christmas greeting. HATE or Love , George Orwell , are you watching? FF |

Uhh Freddie, those nice folks are my best friends ans neighbors. I visit with them and do dinner often and it was me that drove up as you say and only said good riddence AFTER saying "hello Fred" and you looked me square un the face and didn't say a word but rather walked away! Sort if like "kiss my ass" so yea with that attutude, good riddence! And just a note, I don't "scrounge" things up for my bus. That would be next best thing to dumpster diving and we all know your the king of that! |

All this fun is great , but just remember ACE of HATE has never ever seen the inside of my bus. A decade ago he "heard" from a friend, of a friend or something , and has been posting his ignorance since. I wouldn't bother to give him a tour as he certainly would not understand custom cabinets . The the concept "Empty Bays" is the way I prefer to use the interior volume though it doesn't look "fancy" enough to a Status Freak that posts himself by his shells name . The modified ( not removed)overhead baggage areas would be beyond his understanding. The real fun will come when he discovers the next project (2 years so far) is a 1956 35 ft coach , not a big shoebox. That should pop his head! FF |

Guys!!! We all have our opinion on everything. No when it comes to Our COACHES it is the same. Some like purple, some like green[lime] other may not even have a color cordinated look, but does matter?? I enjoy good times and laughter more that most folks and love to be around people that enjoy life. I wasn't promised a tomorrow but by HIS grace I was promised eternal life. Now our job is to spread GOOD WILL and PEACE among our friends. So how can we do that if we continually hit on each other. I believe we lost[?] a bus nut because of contraversy here. AS chessie would say and I agree CHILL OUT and love your friends.YOU may need them someday LOL gomer |
