Our past MH experience has always been in the traveling mode,I can count the times on one hand we have stayed two days in a row at campgrounds. Guess I must like out of the way spots,,or the scenery,,whatever, ONLY about half the places had 30A the rest had 15A, so you may have to learn the secret of LOAD SHEDDING. ESPECIALLY if you were deluded enough to think a campground would love to provide you with 240/50 in unlimited quantities , unmetered! OR if your visiting at a friends home , and all you get is a single 15A line. Load shedding is the automatic method of having your electric system operate with a tiny amount of electric , and still have you as comfortable as you can be , considering the electric avilable. Eg, Your air cond will cycle off and on , with load shedding , the hot water heater (which is happy with ocasional juice) will switch on every time the air cond shuts off. MY old#386 Granger catalog has SQUARE Ddp32v02y240 30A compact two pole 30A relays for $30.45 5B126 Granger # also G#5B122 at $35.25 Inclosure boxes are available,,same page. All these relays are NO normally open ,,but on the previous catalog page it explains a 30 sec.method of reversing the cartridge to make a NC normally closed contact relay. Wiring is a walk in the sun. Put a relay on the circuit to be controlled like Air cond #2 or on your Hot Water heater,, Then a 18G control wire,, say from #1 AC compressor, goes thru a switch to the relay on #2 AC . When AC #1 turns on the NC relay opens on AC #2 and #2 can't operate. The switch allows you to bypass this load shedding function in a great (30 amp) campground. This process of having a controll line, with slave relays can be continued until you run out of money. A reasonable concept would be to have AC #1 control AC #2 and the hot water heater, hopefully neither the battery charger or TV circuits will bring the load up so nothing works( total over 15 or 20 amps). As you sit and relax having all this automatic switching done for you at the "good view" campsite, think of how effective $50 worth of parts is to your standard of living, and hoist a cool BECKS for me. Adding AC amp meters to incoming lines helps a lot in determing how much current you are using. Most good boat supply stores have them for about $50 per meter. They are also helpful in determing generator load. |

I you add an ammeter, try to find the "shunt-type" so you don't have full load current at your dashboard, or rear indicator panel. ...JJ |

MOUSER electronics sells digital metering units that are remote sensing. measure the current at the source, display it any where |
