out to have the bus soda blasted and on the way down found i had no headlights. there is voltage to the switches but no power to the lights. also after the soda blasting which took 2 days and i had to camp out on the property the bus would not start.seems with 1/4 tank of fuel you cant park on an angle. we took off the air filter which was a total bitch to do,thinking we may of got some soda in the intake but she was clean as a whistle. the process one of the guys broke the brass line to my algee removing device in the fuel line... our next step was a trip to lowes for an easy out and a piece of pipe. we got it all back together and she still would not start. we then decided to add 10 gallons of fuel, and with a little priming of the filters we were off. bus looks good but will need a lot of polish to shine like i want... |

Yeah, Thomas... We need pics. I'd also like to know what it cost you, how much of the bus you did for the cost, and how the finish looked when you were done blasting. I've thought about chemical stripping the lower portion of my '04 (below the belt line...it's painted to look like aluminum, and doesn't look as nice as the pic) and restore it to a nice aliminum finish. I head soda blasting will not pit the finish, right?? Not sure of the chemicals, or what to even use if I go that route. Thanks Thomas... |

it is just baking soda and it will not pit..took all the paint off from top to bottom for $130 per hour cash $150 check. in total i paid $1040 looks good but i made an order for 1 pound of nuvite polish and it will shine when i am done. nuvite is supposed to be the best, at $50 a pound it sure as heck ought to be. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVRzG5tp7B0&feature=related |

cycle your dimmer switch several times. Sometimes they will cause this from inactivity. |

Tom on all the 04,06.etc the dimmer switch was on the floor[left side of driver] just in the area of the horn button[air]. Evidently the PO has taken that out and put in a switch which is probably not heavy enough to handle the load like a normal dimmer switch. Look under the drivers compartment and look for some wires going to the lights as well as the switch you are speaking of. There are sometimes relays there also and some breakers mounted on the front of the compartment wall up near the floor. Jack on gm coaches the tranny door is hinged from the side, the radiator door is hinged from the top. on my 4104 and 4905 the are hinged from the side with a latch between the tailgate and the door. Most have been altered tho. Gomer |

i have voltage to the switches and all breakers. i think i just might rewire the lights if i cant find the problem. the bus had no floor horn as the p/o's had no use of their legs and relied on hand controls... |

My Tranny door is original, with the rod support & receiver & it lifts to open, & when it's open .....it's just the perfect forehead HAMMER when coming around from the back to the side of the bus.... I have a "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" flag attached to it to avoid another "wake-up" experience. Pesky Buses, always lookin for a way to play trix on their owners! |

Marvin, Jack, Thomas and others - The location of the hinge for the transmission access door became an option on the 4106 shortly after production started in 1961. It was one of those rare options where GM actually listened to their customers! (If only they'd done so with the '06 OEM dashboard!) My '64 4106 had the transmission door hinged on the front side, whereas a friend's '63 '06 has it hinged on the top. His coach came from TX originally, mine from Central CA. Neither were 'Hounds or Trailways while they were in revenue service. The plot thickens! FWIW & HTH. . .

Thomas, do you have the maintenance manual? It has the wiring diagrams and circuit breaker locations. On the 4106 all headlights are fed by a single breaker in the drivers wiring panel. I believe the master switch feeds the breaker which then goes to the hi/lo switch and on to headlights. Hope that helps. Tom P. |

Hi, Tom and Thomas. I think that you will find that the headlights on the 4106 will turn on with the master switch in the off position. The power for the headlights comes from a single toggle switch on the panel to the left of the driver. At least, that's the way ours is, and I believe that it is original. For what it's worth.
