Forgot to post this on my earlier post. I still have the large (I think it is 24") steering wheel on my Eagle, and would like to change it to a smaller one (I think a 22"???) Was thinking of going to the local large truck junk yard and seeing if I could get one. Any of you have any experience on which type, size, brand, etc works the best and are any of them interchangable without major modifications. | ||

Buddy take the nut off of your wheel and go to a truck junk yard and see if your is the same as the one you want and then you are about 90% home. The splines should be the same if the nut fits. The other 10% of the problem is getting the sucker off.!!!!! Gomer | ||

Gomer; you got that right. I tried to move mine because it was off center. I broke puller bolts trying and then realized I only had to loosen and turn the lower splines to do it. Opps Dave | ||

I second the VIP Wheels recommendation. I got one for my '81 MC9. Very good product and not all that expensive. After I told them what kind of bus I had, they sent me one that fit exactly. | ||

I have the original 22" wheel in my Eagle 01, so not sure why yours is bigger? Ours is still manual steering, when we go to power, 18"er for me like Tom mentioned. | ||

For those of you that are contemplating buying a custom or different size wheel..... Watch the spoke pattern you purchase. Something different than the traditional 3 spoke design can and will obscure some of the gauges in straight ahead driving by the spoke placement.Increased effort required to turn wheel, even with power, could be irritating as some of you,us,me age. Also too small a wheel can make emergency steering extremely difficult in case of steering assist loss with integral power steering. Just some thoughts to consider from personal experience. Otherwise, go for it. Those VIP wheels are awesome and I will be installing one on my 4905. My nuclear Big Bus already has one |
