Highly recommend you look into Lifeline AGM batteries. They have a 400amp 6v L16 battery that I am going to use (6 for 1200amp/hrs @ 12v). Lifeline is U.S. made and available at numerous outlets. Fullriver is Chinese made and they don't even list their distributors.
Please buy U.S. made products even though they maybe a bit more expensive!! Good Luck, TomC

unfortunately I don't have the new application that shows sarcasm.
If I hear TAR sands instead of oil sands one more time, or hear one more dis about dirty oil from Alberta from our closest and best trading partner.... Well we just might stop sending barley to the states to make Coors

Let the beer wars begin!

There is NO American beer with the possible exception of Sam Adams. Light beer is not beer, it is something else. Miller Lite is an abomination.

Coors and Budweiser are not even close. Becks Dark is beer, Molson is beer, Labatt is not beer.

Being in Florida, we don't get a lot of Canadian beer so I can't pass judgment on Moosehead or Kokanee (you've got to be kidding about that one).

I do hope to visit Canada again soon to see if they have learned anything about brewing beer.

Someday I would like to enjoy a good American beer... and when they make some good beer I will.
Kokanee is vile, Moosehead is drinkable but you aint tasted nothing yet till you try a sleemans or a grasshopper. Some of the Ricards is very good too.

Where I grew up, if it wasn't brewed in New Ulm then it wasn't beer!
The real truth:
I love beer but

IT has it in for me,

more than 2 swallows & the problems begin.
The odd thing is when I do have a reason to celebrate
it is with a shot of straight Crown Royal/Royal Salute...EverClear & water 15-1 or Ezra B. neat.

Make room for one of your own Len....
I'll hand you the empties and you do the tossin...
let'em bring it on!

Les, I think the whiskers would tend to tip off those
who weren't lookin at my chest....
good one! even though it took 3 minutes to thaw before I could read it....

My in laws, now long gone, were renown for their great parties. My Father-in Law, cheap bastard that he was, would serve top shelf for the first hour or so, then switch to the cheap stuff. Nobody ever caught on.

Be warned if you are ever at my house! I learned a lot from the old guy.

Good Beer is required for all bus discussions!

Our method in FL is to bring 10 cases of Ballentine Ale 40 oz bottles with us.

Becks is my favorite brew , but a bit pri$y.

To my tastes Ballentine Ale is the best made in the USA brew , and $28.00 a case doesn't hurt.

Wayne.
are we led to believe that you indulge in that great north american pass time called "home brew beer"
Welcome kindred spirit!
I have brewed a batch or two in my time as well as fermented a drop or two of wart.
I am not talking of just throwing yeast now but actually starting from juice and creating nectar
Weren't we talking about batteries?

Les, No I do not brew beer. Jack mentioned New Ulm. If it is Minnesota he is talking about there is the oldest family owned brewery in that town. The Schell brewery has the same name as our family. My brothers and myself have spent time at that brewery. Very nice people and good beer (well most of it).

Is there a good quality, North-American-made wet cell "big-capacity" battery? I'm guessing that 6-volters are the best way to get the most amps, right?

I designed my bus to accept 2-8D deep cycle batteries. I tried wet celled-and was a pain with checking the water several times a year, and cleaning the posts from out gassing. Then I discovered Thermoil-which you add 1/4" to the top of the water and it cuts down on water use and outgassing to the point that I only checked the water twice a year.
Then I went with Lifeline AGM batteries. Yes they are more expensive, but-you don't have to check them, they don't out gas so no terminal cleaning, can mount them in any position except upside down, and they accept a charge 2-3 times faster (because of lower internal resistance) then wet batteries. All points that makes the extra cost well worth it. I've had my 2-8D's in now for 4 years and have done nothing to them! Good Luck, TomC

Bruce, try looking at Forklift/Pallet Jack traction batteries. Even the 48V models can be split to create whatever voltage you need, they are infinitely rebuidable, and can be run hard and put up wet.
I had a used one in a Skoolie I owned for 12 years. It would run everything except the A/C for a week, and took over night to charge up using the charger from a golf cart.
It was 48V but I cut the bars and reset it to make 12V.
It did outgas, but was an easy cleanup with a coke every month or so, and after 12 years was still showing full charge after a days charge and rest cycle.
Heavy? Yup, it weighed over 1000 lbs, and I had to put it in with a cherry picker, however I bought it used from the local recycle yard where they let me go through all the fork lift batteries and pick out the good cells to put in one case. The cost? IIRC it was about 1/2¢ per pound at that time, which made my battery bank cost about $60

Thanks to Tom and Dallas - good info. My plan is to set up my bus, run wet-cells for whatever life I can get out of them and them switch to AGM. I don't feel good about "experimenting" with AGM's from the start. But if they're the way to go from the start, then it sounds like a good way to go.

YES I was talking about the SOLE survivor of New Ulm, Schell's Beer.
New Ulm once had dozens of breweries, more than 4 states combined! (Iowa, the Dakota's & Wyoming)
AND to FRED...
I used to drive from MN to NY, mostly to have a Ballentine's, back in the early '70's.....you sir are CORRECT!

Now about batteries.......

My 10 Marathon no vent batteries, have sat for as much as 18 months without usage or recharge.
They dropped 1/2 a volt during that time and
charged back up to the 13.5-.8 volts they had when I plucked them from the boneyard
for FIVE DOLLARS A PIECE....
(look in the Grainger's Catalog ...they want $400 EACH for them!)
they were cell-phone tower Back-up Batteries, in case the Genny failed.

Do you have ANY idea how many batteries are removed for cell towers nationwide
for routine maintenance that are still in great condition?
....THERE is OUR PRIME resource!

AND BTW....I am working on my house battery box this w/e,
yestrday I got the word from the Powder Coater that my sample of Aircraft Honeycomb Aluminum sandwich material
did NOT unglue in the 400 degree oven.
SO, that means that my Bat. Box will have black wrinkle finished powder coating on the panels
.....they will look like somone with REAL money had them fabricated
..... instead of a 125# ignorant Dink with 9-1/2 fingers & big aspirations!
Everyday a new challenge to conquer
every day another chance for success & satisfaction!

Dallas,

Did you hear that Mickey Mouse is asking for a divorce?

He turned in the papers, and his lawyer read them, then met with him for the first consultation. The lawyer said "I understand you want a divorce because Minnie is crazy."

Mickey said "I didn't say anything about her being crazy, I said she is F***ing Goofy!"

Oh George
Now you have lost all respect.. Guinness... yuck!
As i mentioned above I make some of my own beer and having heard about this delicious, dark nutty beer from Ireland called Guinness I decided to make some. I got the kit for that one and started it. It took about a month for the stuff to brew (longer than normal)
When it was finished I primed it and bottled expecting to have a batch of this so called nectar of the gods...
When I opened and tried to drink the first pint... well it was disgusting.
I had believed that I got an infection in it and dumped the whole batch down the drain.
About a year later we were in the U.K. Stopped at a real Irish pub, I thought "great I will try the real Guinness"... guess what.
My batch was not infected. That is how the darn stuff tastes.
For European beers.
try some of the German stouts or English bitters
Les
