My clutch seems to be in good condition, but I am having trouble upshifting and downshifting, without grinding gears. The only thing I have found is that the accelarator pedal is sticking on decceleration. This is it's first trip as it had sat about 5 years before I got it. Any ideas?

if you cannot control the engine speed then you are going to have a lot of gear grinding. fix the cable or air throttle and you should be well on your way to happy driving.

Take the cable loose at one end, and make a temporary adapter to pour silicone lube into the casing, then use low pressure air (30 to 40 psi)to force it out the other end. Work it back and forth to free up the old lube, and thoroughly spread the silicone. If you have a minor leak or break in the casing you may have to do it from both ends. BTW, everyone grinds 'em a little, so don't worry about it. Ginding gears is like self abuse... there are those that do, and those that lie about it! Cheers...JJ

RJ Longs article on this board will help a lot for your shifting technique.

Disconect the throttle at the engine & blip the engine ONCE.

If the RPM decay is nice & rapid , replacing the throttle cable will make you very 'Shifty"

If the engine doesnt drop in RPM rapidly , get the gov adjusted , a job for an old DD guy, NOT A TRUCK STOP!!!!
