I was asked for some photo's of my Osage Orange wood that I'm using for my cabinet doors and drawers.
One picture is of my base cabinet where I buillt it on our porch, the next is of the same cabinet taken apart to haul down to the bus.
The third picture is of some of the Osage Orange that I cut out of a 4" limb then dimensioned on the table saw.
The sanded finish is just 150 grit on a DA sander with some mineral oil soaked into it about 2 weeks ago.

Dallas:
Nice work. That wood has a great grain. There is a face in the third picture, Nose with 2 eyes. Cool.
Doors should come out great.

Dallas,

It's really pretty, but did you you dry it before you put it together? If not, it may shrink.

David, that's one reason I put those pieces together... to see how badly they would shrink.
The wood comes from a tree that's been standing dead for about 2 years and most of what I've checked with the moisture meter was reading between 6 and 10%. Since that time the wood has been stored inside our air conditioned Recreation hall, (Not used for that anymore), and has been sitting for about 2 months.

Russell... I have no clue about wood working either, I just figure that if I come in the house with the same number of fingers I went out with, it's been a good day!

Dallas you are on the right track. The cabinet grade wood must be under 10% moisture content and that prevents it from warping and when it is sealed that settles the matter. Kiln dried wood is about 10-12% when it is done depending on the thickness of the wood. The thicker the more time it takes and then the outside edges are very dry while the inside will be about 10% Still love the look too>

Sure Teresa, bring it to Texas and we'll find another Bodark tree to make the lumber out of!

The vibration in a moving bus is hard on simple or Kleeg joints.

Out fix is really simple , we glue a 1x1x1 triangle in the corners which increases the joint surface area at tiny cost and labor.

Only care is if a fitted drawer might be deep enough to hit the reinforcement.

Looks great!!CUSTOM Built cabinets beet Home Depot take outs 10-1 !!!

Yup, I'll be putting in the corner gussets before I put the counter top or drawers in. I plan on 3 on each full wall and 1 on the top and 1 on the bottom where the face frame is.
This will provide a couple of functions, one, to help with the vibration, and two, it give's me a place to bolt it through the floor to keep it from becoming a missile in a sudden stop.
All walls are not only connected with Kreg Pocket hole screws, but also the edges have been glued.
These cabinets will be painted with only the doors, drawers and counter edges being made of the Bodark.
I wish the photo had come out better, it doesn't really show the depth of the figuring in the grain.

thanks for all the good words and advice guuys and gals! It's all helpful!
