According to dietroit when you set the govenor at full throatly, no load, at 2150rpm. the actual rpm under load is always 200 rpm lower = 1950rpm. So do you set the govenor at the max rpm you want at no load or at full load?? Thanks John |

It's called governor "droop" and it allows for 150 rpm drop to compensate for the inherent slop in the mechanical governor linkage. So if you want your engine set at 2100 under full load, you set it at 2250 no load. I don't know where you heard 200 droop, it is 150, and if you have a tight rack it comes out even less. --Geoff '82 RTS CA |

Geoff I called the tech dept at DDA in Dietroit. They were the guys that informed me of the droop. I was curious cause I always hear people say set the 671 at 2150rpm, but with a 150 or 200 droop do they set it under load or off load?? Thanks John |

A lot of people set the no load at 2300, so then it would be at 2150 under full load. |

How hard is it to set the govenor? Can it be done by someone in the driveway with a good tach and without taking anything apart? Suppose I could look in DA book but since this thread is here.... Thanks, Steve G. |
