This is the Webasto that came in my bus. What would be the best way to clean this? Thought about pressure washing whole engine transmission area to include webasto. Opinions Please Thanks Rod Tried to post picture from photobucket but don't have the hang of yet. (Message edited by rod on December 12, 2010) |

Rod, I advise against pressure washing it. Water could get into the relay box or even the blower and either of those would be an expensive problem. I would use a medium bristle brush to remove any caked on mud or grime, then wipe the outside of the unit with a rag. Soap and warm water ought to be enough to clean it up for most purposes. Don't forget the unit needs to be opened up for service at least annually. I don't buy into the notion of changing the nozzle every time unless I am having a problem. But you should at least inspect the burner and remove any soot build-up, clean off the nozzle area, and clean the flame sensor well. I use WD-40 to remove the deposits from the nozzle and flame sensor, and a wire brush and compressed air to remove buildup in the combustion chamber. Inspect the blower and burner intake and exhaust for any obstructions, and adjust the spark electrodes if necessary using the alignment guide that should be affixed to the outside of the unit. if it is a 3500 at or a 5500 at there really is no nozzle the fuel goes into an atomizer which is made of non replaceable stainless Steele fiber DO NOT TOUCH OR PICK AT THE ATOMIZER PLATE YOU WILL RUIN IT... don't ask me how i know... to clean the insides you have to remove the burner plate and the burner tube then use a wire brush on the insides. i just put mine in the dishwasher.... then just put her back together, i have been having troubles with mine so it goes off to germany for inspection next week. it gets a free ride going but i pay return postage. |

Thanks. That was what I thought but I have so much caked dirt in the area. I guess I will try scraping and see what I come up with . Rod |

Tom (and Rod), He's not likely to have either of those models if the Webasto came with the coach. The 3500 and 5500 are Air Top models (direct-to-air heat exchanger), and most seated coaches came with coolant heaters such as the DBW-2010 (probably what Rod has), DBW-2020, or Scholastic. Lots...and lots...and lots of information on taking care of your unit. 1) check the archives on this forum. 2) check the internet....much new in the way of downloads by Webasto. 3) Sure Marine is VERY helpful in supplying manuals,, phone "talk", etc. 4) Vehicle Systems in Colorado has also been very helpful. 5) don't just "wing it"...go to the experts, get the information, and if everything else fails...follow instructions!!! These are VERY expensive toys to buy parts for...especially thru carelessness. I just "serviced" mine (DBW2010) this past week....by the "book"! This after a "no start" and blown fuse($26 plus) due to low coolant in the system (air)... Sean is correct...minimum ANNUAL clean-up. FWIW RCB FWIW |
