Hi guy's, My bus serial # is 7545 and the unit# is 20006 Does this mean it is the 6th bus off the assembly line? And does anybody know how to find out where it was first in service? Thanks, Gary |

Gary - My MCI production list is buried in a box in storage after moving recently, but, IIRC, based on the unit number, yes, yours was the sixth MC-6 built. All of these (100) were built for Greyhound. As you know, the MC-6 was the first highway coach built 102" wide, and therefore, at the time, illegal on most highways. Greyhound tried to get the limits changed, but did not have the success they had 15 years earlier getting the forty-foot length approved. Because of this, 15 went to Canada (which ok'd the 102" width), and the remaining 85 stayed here in the States, but were severely restricted as to where they could operate - and only then with a special permit. I would say the vast majority of the 85 worked the West coast, primarily SF - LA. Stateside, the 12Vs were replaced with 8V71Ts mated to HT-740s after it was discovered that the 12s were not only thirsty, but drivers had a tendency to tear up the clutch with the monster torque output. All the Canadian cars kept the 12s until they were sold off. For more info, you should pick up a copy of Larry Plachno's "Modern Intercity Coaches". It has a whole chapter dedicated to the 6 in it. FWIW & HTH. . .

Thanks RJ I'll have to pick a copy of that up. Being new to the bus world, it would just be neat to know the full history of your bus. |

Gary, The list I have starts at the 7547 thru the 7550, with serials of 20008-20011, delivered in 1969, no month shown. Way down the list are the 7535-38, with serials 20061-64. So it looks like your unit and serial numbers would be right, with 7545 and 20006 each being two less than the 7547, serial 20008? All of the MC6s built show delivered to Greyhound at Phoenix AZ, with the exception of the 20012-20026 which were delivered to Edmonton AB. They had an original 3 digit Greyhound number starting at 336, and a serial number starting at 7826. Mine was the second of them, 7827, and 20013. Apparently they added a 7 in front of the Canadian buses later, so mine became the 7337. G (Message edited by George_todd on December 16, 2010) |

Hi George - Not to hijack this thread, but does your list include MC5s (1977, in my case)? I know the name and location of the last commercial owner but have reached a dead end. What info. might you need? Thanks, Nellie |

Nellie, if you google mci delivery list you can look it up,.......maybe. There are gaps in the info. For instance i know where the bus before and after mine went, but mine is missing from the list. |
