Bill that is defin-atly a Detroit!! The road is and was familiar also as I used to drive it. What memories!! Have you noticed that when the owner is driving a unit of any description that there is no jerking, grinding of gears, just smooooth shifting! My dad, when he taught me to drive a big rig,put a 3/4 full glass of water on the dash and said "DON'T SPILL IT" If you did you sat on the passengers side after that LOL GOOD TRAINING.

Nice sounding 8V-71. My first truck had a screaming 6-71 in it. Shift at 2400, down shift at 1900, and put another gallon of oil in it when the oil pressure went from 32 to 29 psi. Wore ear plugs.
Also had a 6V-92TA GMC Astro that a driver drove, and my truck with 8V-92TA. Never got tired of the sound. Drove Detroits from '79 till '88 when I bought my truck that I'm now converting to a motorhome. It has a Caterpillar 3406B 400hp-had to completely relearn how to shift it is so different then the Detroits-but just about dirt reliable. Good Luck, TomC

Nice driving -

I know the Sperryville area like the back of my hand. But what's a guy from Oregon doing in Sperryville? Just curious...

I've had seasoned OTR drivers, and a some seasoned bus drivers, drive (try to drive) my 8V-71. But two things she ain't supposed to do is go UGHA-UGHA-UGHA and to GRIND! But, so far, I've seen only one person that doesn't let that happen.

Okay, she GROOOWLS and WHINES and SNARLS but that's only her way of chatting... like some huge wildcat that's coaxing me to play and have fun.

Loved our video.

Nellie

PLEASE don't tell me this is a slush box - it would dash my infatuation with your expertise (I noticed that column shift lever in one of the frames).
