I tried to post this and it did'nt show up, pardon me if it does and there are two of these posts. OK, I am converting my Turn signal and Stop/Tail lamp assemblies to LED lighting. It takes a little effort but the result is good and will probably last the life of the bus. The Turn signal lens assemblies come in two types, one where the lens is clear (you can see the bulb filiment through the lens) and one that is diffused ( a frosted look). The Frosted look works the best. My problem is, my project bus came with three diffused lens turn signal assemblies and one clear lens turn signal assembly. I need one diffused AMBER lens turn signal assembly (the bulb can be burnt out, it would be removed anyway). If anyone has a parts bus (RTSII) and has one of these turn signal assemblies he can part with, and it is not cracked, let me know what you want for it. I need to finish this part of the project. Anyone interested, the conversion is not hard, the LEDs were picked up from RON THE BUS NUT a lot cheaper than the bus companies wanted to offer and with a little work, the conversion works well. Anyone interested can message me here and I would share my procedure. Thanks to anyone that can help me. cd |

Cory: Are you using the original tail light assembly or does it take a new one that fits the led's. I would like some info. if you converted the original assembly. Thanks bogie |

Bogie I am using the original lens assembly. The piece that you replace when the bulb burns out, about the size of an automotive headlight (2 on each side). I am using the same mountings so if you burnt one up or for some reason decided to change back to incandescent bulbs, there would be no modification to return to stock. The unit I modify fits the stock position. The only big change other than the tail light/ directional case modification is gluing the stainless frame over the lens for more strength so you might have to replace those. Once you have the lens case open, the LED fits nicely inside, the edges of the LED are over the edge about 1/8" which helps hold it in place when glued in. Otherwise, it is still stock. One of the bus places wanted $200 per light (they are nuts!). I picked up these LED's for about $20 bucks each-not bad for a little elbow grease. If you need more info we can either e-mail or phone and I can draw up a design to follow, its not too bad. cd the body is white, the lens is red, amber or clear. I am placing the LED unit behind the original lens to keep the original authentic look of the bus, and it does'nt look so much like an LED when in operation. |
