Checked the archives but found nothing pretaining to this topic. Does anyone know if there is a fuel gauge available anywhere that could be installed on my GMC 4905? Thanks for any info. Bill Butler |

Hey double doggie, remember how the ol 425 hp cat bogged down when the Horton clutch kicked on the fan? When you can bog down a 425 hp diesel for fan power, you can be sure it will take some mighty big elec motors to cool it. One of the earlier Flx buses used an elec only fan, that motor was about all I can lift and used welding cables for to power it, still was not sufficient! I know of a couple of people that tried auto and truck electric fans, and they ran out of radiator space to put them before they got any cooling. |

Was just wondering I have to cool a Cummins 8.3 Automatic and I am like you I believe that It will work, there Is a clame that 4-12Inch fans will cool a 300 HP engine and I believe that it will, It Is going to fool a lot of people If It does, what do you thank. Tony |

In shopping the swap meets for several for my genset, I quickly found that all electric fans are NOT created equal. I don't know if there is a CFM chart or anything, what I did was just plug em in and pick the ones that blew a LOT of air. If you can keep it cool when not moving, you can also scoop a LOT of air over the radiator when moving really easy. |

Hey Dos Perrittas, I went through this several years ago, and the old Pros like Don are giving you the straight skinny...it won't work! Be careful that you don't cook your engine experimenting. We had some moderate success with the condensor fan from a 4905 Buffalo, but that monster at 3600 RPM pulls 85 amps, and uses more HP through the increased alternator drag than it was worth. ...JJ |

Jayjay, that Flx with the big fan - that is what it used exactly. I donated my 4905 condenser fan to the guy when his quit. Noisy sucker too! |

If you're going to go to the trouble of electric fans, hell, why not move the radiators to the front of the bus? Yet to be seen, but I believe it would be way more efficient... Not QUITE the same thing but I've got a VW Vanagon that will NOT get over 60 celcius no matter how hot it is outside... Becomes a problem in Winter, the engine is cool enough after a 3 hour highway jaunt that you can hold your hand on the engine. If you mounted the piping appropriately, you could probably get a decent radiant heat system for your floor or walls. |
