Thanks for your help again: I have a generac 7500kw generator that is wired for 240, a 2500 watt heart interface combi/charger and I want some help on how to make this all work together. My desire is to be able to charge house batteries off shore power or generator and to be able to use house batteries going down the road Then shore power or generator when parked. I need a schematic of how it all goes together. My inverter says it has a built in transfer switch. I had thought I would just use the plug in system for changing from shore power to generator. Also what kind of a plug etc. would I need Thanks in advance Bob |

The first thing I would do is determine if the Generac can be re-connected for straight 120 volt output. Unless you plan on, and actually need, 240 volts for something, then reconnect for 120 volts. Makes everything much simpler, and you do not have to be concerned about balancing the load on the genset. A quick way to determine if the genset is re-connectable is to remove the connection box cover and check the main power leads coming from the alternator itself. In 99% of the cases, there will be four main power leads labeled G1, G2, G3 and G4. For 240 volt output, G1 will be connected to one of the main output leads, G4 will be connected to the other output lead and G2 and G3 will be connected together for the neutral output lead and connected to the frame of the genset. For 120 volt output, G1 and G3 will be connected together for one of the output leads, G2 and G4 will be connected together for the other output lead. There will not be a neutral lead. G4 will normally be connected to the genset frame. There will generally also be two small leads labeled F1 and F2 coming out of the alternator. This goes to the field to control the actual output voltage. Please check your owners manual. This should be outlined in it, or call Generac to find out how they wire their units. Richard |

I wired the 220 output from the gen to a 50 amp female outlet. Did the same for my shore. The two outlets are next to each other in the electrical closet behind the drivers seat. A 50 amp male plug from the cercuit breaker panel can be plugged into one or the other. I had a transfer switch when I bought the bus but it with out and cost over $150 to replace. I have a wiring diagram of my system but don't know where to post it. I could send a copy to you if you like. Joe 4106-2119 |
