I was just reading the post down the board "My 04 is running too hot" (10/06) and read the threads about the oil cooler installation. Sounded intriguing. I was curious. How high can the oil temp get before we should start to be concerned? 220, 250, 260? |

Usually it runs about 10 to 20 degrees hotter than the coolant. Carry on. |

Add to that the oil temp can get as high as 40 degrees hotter than the coolant going up a steep long grade flat wide open. An example would be pulling the Ridge Route on Eye 5 in Southern California and your water temp gets to 190 degrees, then... ...it is possible and OK if the engine oil temp gets as high as 230 or even perhaps 240. What is important is that it does NOT stay that high... ...but quickly drops back to normal decending the hill. Same with the coolant temp. This is NOT the transmission temp, which... ...on some Allision Automatics may also climb sometimes as high as 250, but again quickly drops back when the hill is behind you. Good luck. |
