I have a European Bus converted. I am in the process of replacing the belt driven cooling fan with hydraulic. I need a dual hydraulic pump which would also provide flow and pressure for the power steering. Does anyone know if there is any way to determine what flow and pressure the power steering box would need? The power steering pump now on it does not have any markings. I am tempted to use specs from a large truck....!! Any help would be appreciated. Jim |

The Victor's VT-42 right hand pump on my power steering ASSIST system on the Crown ex-schoolie is physically a pretty small pump. You can easily hold it in one hand, weighs about 5 to 8 pounds, guessing. It runs the power assist extremely well. The problem you may have is that to run the HUGE cooling fan(s) on your coach MAY require up to 20 or even 30 hp. A bunch. Which may mean a lot larger pump. Forgot to also say that the Crown power steering pump is powered off the engine crankshaft by two (2) normal sized belts. The pump will run with only one belt. The cooling fan is run by two very large belts off of king sized pulleys. Good luck. |

Daffy Canuck? THE Daffy Canuck? Wow, you're a celebrity. The Hydraulic pump on the engine isn't physically very big, neither is the motor. I could get you part numbers and such if I wasn't in Mexico, with my bus in the Bay area. what engine is in your DAF? Gary |

Gary I think you have the wrong person....a celebrity I'm not....a bus nut I am.... I have the small hydraulic motor. It's good for 25hp and 4000 rpm....more than I need. My fan is 19.5 inches. I do need the dual pump or one large enough with a flow divertor. Don't know how much flow and pressure the power steering box will need. Jim |

Hi Jim, I bought some conversion books from Ben Rosander, and found the article on your bus to be one of, if not the most interesting article. I was actually curious about what engine--main power plant is in the DAF. Actually....Now that you mention it, I have a tiny hydraulic motor in a bunch of Navy Surplus stuff I have, like 1/2 - 5/8 shaft.....I don't need it.
