TOW CAR. I have been thinking and planning what kind of tow car to have and I think I have a good inexpensive solution. A Volvo 240 5 speed manual transmission wagon. I just helped my son fix up one with 285,000 miles on it, second engine. The parts are all inexpensive and they are easy to work on. A tow bar could be installed right to the bumper on the ones with a heavy aluminum bumper. Volvo confirms that there is no limit on speed or distance towing a standard transmission Volvo. A wagon has the ability to haul parts that won't fit in a sedan, and if you occasionally need to haul a troupe of grandkids or other people they are often available with a third seat. My sons weighs 2600 lbs: legally would not need brakes in most states. I will put towed brakes on though. If it tows as good as it drives it will be a dream. Any feed back on towing Volvos? They can be had for around $2000 or less and they don't depreciate too much after 12 years. Examples of inexpensive parts: All new bushings in rear suspension (10 bushings)- - $70 on Ebay or $85 by phone. Front end: two ball joints, two tie rod ends, all control arm bushings, sway bar bushings -- $71 on Ebay, $85 by phone. The only thing I do not like is getting in and out. The doors are narrow.
