Hi folks, The server error which prevented all y'all from receiving e-mail from BNO's BBS has been fixed! Explained: Our ISP, over the last 6 months or so, has bought all new computers to store their clients' web sites, including BNO and Prestige Online Services' properties. Ours was the last client to remain on their last old server (at our request - so that any bugs they had with the new stuff was worked out before we were transferred to their new systems). Sometime on the weekend, they finally switched us over to our very own brand new server! Their new server, however, didn't contain two small programs that made our auto e-mailing system work. They hadn't copied the two programs over onto the new server. After contacting them yesterday with the problem, they have added the proper programs and rebooted the server. In turn, we have reprogrammed the bbs to configure the e-mail program to operate correctly and, voila, here is living proof that it works once again. Short Version: Something broke, they fixed their stuff, we fixed our stuff, everything works fine again. For those of you who are technically up to speed or are otherwise interested in the nitty gritty guts of the problem/solution, the e-mail our tech support people sent us appears below (edited somewhat so that trade secret stuff remains that way!) To catch up on anything you missed, please use the "Last Week" link from the menu on the left side of the board to view missed messages. Again, we would ask you to accept our apology for the technical difficulties and thank you for your continued and valued support of BNO and our new bulletin board system, BNO BBS. You can install these in your cgi-bin, then you will need to 'push' the path to this in the XXXX array, so that perl knows where to look for these. Once you have done this, everything should be working." - - - - End quote. And, indeed, it is! |
