It's a tube of caulking that behaves much like silicone when it's cured, but it's butyl rubber and so.... *it seals things like windows and windshields very well *it seals metal to metal (panels, etc) very well *it seals rooftop items very well *you can paint over it *it stays flexible *it's hell if there's any under something you're welding *it's messy to clean up because it gets on everything *it's availiable in black or white and in different grades I get mine at an industrial caulking company. Not home depot stuff, more for the professional construction industry Cheers Gary |

Try Sikausa.com A great product IF used according to instructions. (they will send you if requested) Specifics are not on the tube. Very limited working time ( in some formulae), quick setting and IMHO no different or more difficult to work with than any other sealant. Matter of fact, in many situations it is easier to use since it is a stiffer material (not runny or flowing) EXCEPT you need to watch expiration dates very carefully. Past or even close to ex date make it very stiff and difficult to extract. Requires a GOOD gun to dispense. Cleans with their solvent...or Mineral spirits, Xylol (xylene) and a variety of other solvents. Can be tooled while not set...ie pressing into a butt joint with a blade or putty knife... and is easily cut away with razor scraper or utility knife. Use sparingly, with spacers for best results. All this is in literature you can get from Sika USA. Product is available from any number of sources. Mine came from Austin Hardware, located in a number of cities in the country. Expensive at about $10 a tube + -. FWIW RCB '64 Crown HWC |

I got my Silkaflex from Austin Hardware on the Internet. They have a great sale catalog. Lots of hinges and handles. I got all my basement door hardware from them. You are right..... Need a good calk gun. Air gun better. Cheap calk guns WILL break. Close to the expiration date is impossible to work with. Sent 3 tubes to the dump. Ouch, Silkaflex is not cheap!!!! Austin will honor the date....at least they did for me. Sent me new fresh stuff, no charge. Also will make good on any problem with your purchase, no matter the product. Least that's my experience. RCB '64 Crown HWC |

I was of the understanding that Sikaflex is a urethane based caulking, not butyl rubber. Also can be bought under different brand names packagd by Sika |

If you want to see the insides of some greqt RTS buses, you better look at Geoff's and Dwight's. I'm doing my best at honoring those buses by copying ideas they have in theirs. My bus is just getting framed in. Send me an E Mail and I can send you pictures I have of the inside of my bus. I have a LONG way to go with mine. There are other notable buses in our Yahoo group in the files and link section. I do not want to ignore the other members that have posted pictures of the work on their RTS buses. There are a couple of great craftsmen in the group. I wished I had 1% of their talent! jmaxwell..you are correct regarding the base. Sika produces many products, each for a different application and specifics are readily available from Sika USA. Talk with Steve Padgett. Very helpful to me in the past. FWIW RCB |
